I've noticed that the temps range from the following under normal application conditions (I don't run any games)...
CPU Core 0 Temperature 37 ºC (99 ºF)
CPU Core 1 Temperature 42 ºC (108 ºF)
GPU 63 ºC (145 ºF)
to as high as:
CPU Core 0 Temperature 51 ºC (124 ºF)
CPU Core 1 Temperature 51 ºC (124 ºF)
GPU 68 ºC (154 ºF)
Does this seem normal?
Stats:
HP Pavilion dv9500t
Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7250 (2.00 GHz, 2 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
Mobile Intel® PM965 Express Chipset.
Memory: 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
Graphics Card: 128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
Hard Drive: 240GB 5400RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (120GB x 2)
Thanks!

CPU temps look normal, GPU idling seems a bit high at ~60C.

Is it possible something is getting overclocked without my knowledge?
(I got rid of Vista and did a fresh XP install with drivers provided by a thread here on the forum...)
Let me know -- thanks! -
Try another graphic driver. Some of the newer drivers I have installed (169.17, 169.28) have given me a 10C overall increase compared to drivers such as 169.04, which I currently use and think are the most stable ATM.
Right now my idle and max gaming GPU temps go from ~42-80C, and with the hotter drivers I got readings of ~50-90C. -
What are you using to measure the CPU temps?
-
was just wondering that to, what are you using/.
Thanks -
I use rivatuner and I8kfanGUI. If you want to know though, it was rivatuner that reported the ~10C increases with the newer drivers, while I8kfanGUI temps stayed about the same.

Keep in mind that this is a dv9500t that came with Vista and I installed XP Home on it instead -- I used the drivers provided/tested by mujjuman in this thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=165319
The driver provided in his driver pack is the old nVidia Graphics Driver (101.34) (reason being, any newer drivers don't work with this laptop and cause issues with standby and hibernate).
When I check my driver info in Device Manager, this is the info it gives me:
Driver Version: 6.14.11.134
Driver Date: 5/22/2007
I'm not sure how that # corresponds with the 101.34 above though...?
This morning right now, about three minutes after boot up, the temps are this:
CPU Core 0 Temperature 32 ºC (90 ºF)
CPU Core 1 Temperature 33 ºC (91 ºF)
GPU 53 ºC (127 ºF)
...those higher temps I provided were after it had been on awhile and various applications had been opened (and a few running at the same time -- Firefox w/multiple tabs, OE, Word 2007).
But after about twenty minutes, with Firefox and OE and Notepad open, I got this reading:
CPU Core 0 Temperature 47 ºC (117 ºF)
CPU Core 1 Temperature 47 ºC (117 ºF)
GPU 67 ºC (153 ºF)
And then right after:
CPU Core 0 Temperature 38 ºC (100 ºF)
CPU Core 1 Temperature 43 ºC (109 ºF)
GPU 68 ºC (154 ºF)
I use SIW, which lets you check the temps.
I'm wondering if there are some Nvidia things that are loading at startup or are turned on automatically that don't need to be that may be having an effect? These are the Nvidia-related items I have that are in misconfig/startup:
Iaanotif.exe
From SysInfo
IAA Event Monitor User Notification Tool - part of Intel® Application Accelerator - "a performance software package for desktop PCs using select Intel® chipsets" that "replaces the ATA drivers that come with Windows with drivers optimized for desktop and mobile PCs." If you use the RAID version it's required to notify you if a RAID 1 disk has failed.
Note: I don't have a RAID hard drive (though I've read that this is also installed with some non-RAID drivers). I installed New Intel Chipset Driver (8.3.1.1009) and New Intel Matrix Storage SATA (7.8.0.1012) -- and this was part of it for some reason...
NvCpll.dll (rundll32.exe NvCpl.dll, NvStartup)
From SysInfo
Intializes the clock and memory settings on nVidia based graphics cards. Enable if you overclock your card
nwiz.exe (command is "nwiz /install")
From SysInfo
Nvidia nView Wizard - present with the newer versions of nVidia graphics cards drivers. Allows you to immensely improve desktop layouts by setting preferences and optimizations. If you use any of the special nView features available in the control panel leave this alone - otherwise you can disable it
If I can/should turn any of that off, I'd prefer to do it within Nvidia options than disabling the startup item itself. Any thoughts on any of that?
I am also noticing that, well, it's hard to describe, but most of the time everything on my screen looks smooth/good -- but every 10 or 20 seconds, to my eye, it looks like the "smoothness" of things kind of "breaks apart" slightly and you can kind of see the dots or cross-hatch pattern that it's made up of. I don't know if that makes sense, but it's minor, although noticeable to my eye. Any thoughts on this? Note: I do have cleartype turned on (although when I go to the MS Cleartype site to "tune" it, it won't recognize that I have it turned on).
Let me know what you all think -- thanks!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
whoa those are a bit high.... make sure your laptop is getting enough air circulation.

we both have the dv9500 with the 8400M GS and XP. ive been using my laptop with the same configuration since summer time. im betting its normal. -
I just downloaded ntune to see the GPU temps and speedfan to see my cpu and hdd temps
When Idle I get about:
HDD 42C
Core 1 43C
Core 2 43C
GPU 54C (that is when fan is running slowly, usually it cycles, where it will hit up to 66C and then fan brings it down again, then fan turns off again and ....)
When playing games (in this case Age of Empires 3)
HDD 48C
Core 1 64C
Core 2 65C
GPU 80C
Now I if I were to raise the back of the notebook up a bit I get (when gaming)
HDD 50C
Core 1 56C
Core 2 55C
GPU 65C
Though if I raise the back up when idling it just make make hdd warmer.
So there is quite a difference between the gaming temps if i raise it up or not, a difference of about 9C on the CPU and 15C on the GPU. Except that the hdd gets a bit wamer. I did this on a dv9644ca with BIOS version F.33 running just the HP video drivers (156.65).
So my question is, are these temps normal, like the idle temps and the gaming temps even if the notebook is just flat on the table?
Thanks! -
anyone know if those temps are normal
Thanks -
How about Hard disk temperature?
Mine goes up to 42c now when running the game. -
CPU is normal, a little lower than average even. The GPU is a little high though
-
idle GPU or gaming GPU temps? And my GPU seems to fluctuate when idle because the fan turns off, then on, then off....
It gets warm when idle, and even warmer during gaming and if I plan on playing a game for a longer period of time I will raise the back up, and then as you can see there the temps are quite low considering I am gaming.
But do you think that the gaming temps are normal for when I don't have it raised up?
Thanks -
actually i was seeing how it would go just on battery, and what I noticed is that instead of fluctuating to about 65*c and then down again to like 55*C. On power saver I have seen the GPU go all the way to 69*C! And the fan will not kick in because the CPU is still idling at 43*C.
So does anyone else have this issue too? I would rather have the fan running slowly keeping the temp at a reasonable level than having it a bit hotter, and using slightly less battery, and putting more stress on the system.
Thanks
Are the temps of my dv9500t too high?
