I'm about ready to click the order button. I'm just curious if those of you who have been using the 9000t are generally happy with it. I know nothing is perfect so if your happy with your purchase (or not) I'd love to know. Thanks.

Im happy with my purchase of the dv9000t. i got the 2ghz 2gbRAM 120x2 5400rpm model and its fine for my needs. I run vmware which needs a good deal of hd and RAM and it runs vista and XP fine. Games are so far alright with it, high settings at 1024x768 usually which is alright for me. so far its a good purchase and i dont have any REAL complaints

Aside from the latch, yes, I'm very happy with my purchase.

some of the latches do not close completely or all the time. I did notice that with the one I had for a week. I figured if I had kept it a big rubber band would offer a solution to keep the system from opening when it should not.

I have a dv9000z. I am happy for the most part. I have a few issues but nothing significant. To be honest, this is the best and most stable, feature filled computer I have ever had.

I plan on ordering one soon. Where are you ordering yours from?

It seems to me to be a stable system. I saw it in person, and it's pretty nice. This latch thing I keep hearing about is a bit weird. Anyway, a 17" laptop isn't something I plan on lugging around a lot, so it doesn't really matter.

I just Pick up the DV9230US and I am enjoy every min of it. Still tring to figure out Vista and all the other stuff on it. Can't seem to do the Disk Recovery CDs, it keep craping out during the verification of disk one but I may buy the restore disks from HP. I will create a new thread with my review of this new laptop!

First time post for me: I just got mine yesterday. So far.... I'm happy with it. I got the dual lamp ultra brightview screen and wow, it puts my gateway's screen to shame. Even my desktop's Dell flatpanel screen looks dull compared to it. It's been an experience getting used to Vista, but no real complaints so far. These laptops do run wicked hot though when loaded! I've been compressing a DVD to nero digital for the last hour and my cpu is at 69C.... my gateway never got hotter then 54C. It cools right back down after the load is gone but man. Might need to look into a notebook cooler.

I am very happy with 9000t. I ordered it at the end of Nov. with the T7200, 2048MB RAM, 100GB 7200 drive, LightScribe, 512MB graphics card, Bluetooth and the ultrabrightview. It is very fast and has one problem to date. The latch on it doesn’t close all the way. It is no big deal when it’s on my desk or I carry it to another room. When I travel with it I place one of those orange foam earplug things at each corner. They keep it tight and secure. I also doesn’t have the “buzz”.

I'm ordering it directly from HP. Just trying to decide if I should go for the 512 Vram 7600 video card. I'm surprised the processor available tops out at 2.0GHz when there are 2.16 and 2.33GHz Core 2 Duos available. I have decided to get the UltraBrite display even though I'd prefer the higher resolution. I'm gonna place the order tomorrow, which video cards have you guys ordered, anyone go for the 512mb version?

Well, I ordered the 9000z, and from what I understand, the 512 doen't make much difference than the 256 GPU. I am told that the extra 256mb on the 512 is extra "shared" memory.

Wow, I was wondering about that myself, since I am also looking at a DV9000. It appears to be a costly upgrade for simply adding TurboCache ability to the 7600. Ouch! lol

I got the 512 and when I look at the info on it in benchmarking programs it lists 512 megs of dedicated memory and 256 megs of turbo cache. I would take that to mean 512 megs on board and 256 megs of system ram shared.....

I check my temps using speedfan. There are probably better programs out there though.

FYI ... If you call HP, they should send you the recovery disc(s) at No-charge.

Note also you shouldn't be using a RW (re-writeable) type disc... (Yes people do try) and I think your supposed to use (+) discs...

I've had mine for almost two weeks and I love it. It came with the x64 Vista Ultimate, and that caused a bit of a problem as far as a few programs go (MS OneCare, for example), but it runs great, smooth, the screen is amazing.

It's fast starting and exiting, the Vista Aeroglass is great, and I bough a 2Gb SD card for ReadyBoost and that was a snap.

All in all, I am pleased as heck with the thing. (Duo 270, 2Gb RAM, 2x100Gb 7200rpm HDs, UltraBrightView, 512 Graphics)

For the go7600 the 512MB isnt really necessary, 256 is enough for it but if its not that much of a difference or you dont care about the price then go for it.

One question, for those who have custom ordered a 9000t, have you received it by or before the quoted estimated delivery time? I'm trying to get a handle on if HP is pretty accurate with their shipping quotes. None of the components I ordered specify any delays. I was quoted an estimated March 2 shipping date.

I ordered mine on the 12th. It was listed to be built and shipped by the 22nd and then it would have been the shipping time after that. It ended up shipping on the 16th, went from China, to Alaska, to Tennesse, to my doorstep on the 19th. I was impressed to say the least.

Can you explain why? I mean beyond the obvious of HP and other places that sell recordable media wanting to sell more disks?

I see zero reason why not to use re-writable media...it's all I use and have used for well a loooong time.

    hello

i myself am after the dv9000t. Here's some stuff i still need to know before i throw myself into this thing :D
    - battery lifetime - what's your experience about that?
    - does having 2x hdd's inflict severe penalty to the battery's life?
    - [HP Extended Service Plan. is this worldwide or just US? :D I'm asking because so far this notebook is not available in Romania and I plan to buy it from the US.] -> later edit: i just found out that it's US only ... :(

    Thanks a lot
    Cheers!

mantis - The battery life is pretty low. I'd give it a couple of hours, depending on what your are doing. I pretty much keep mine plugged in all the time.

I haven't done any testing, but I think the second hard drive would affect battery life, but it would depend on how much action it is getting. If you're not writing anything to the second drive, it should spin down and not use up your power.

So far I've really enjoyed the dv9000. It is a beautiful computer with a great display. The performance so far has been excellent - core duo kicks butt in Boinc processing. I really like that it is light for its size and it is feature packed for the price.

That glossy exterior is really freaking me out though. I keep a large micro fiber cloth with it and am constanly wiping it down. I really wish I had a matte or textured finish option. (maybe they do but only direct) Don't get me wrong it looks like a hot rod and I love the looks but I know when it gets its first scratch I'm going to vomit. :p

My last computer was a Compaq X1000 and the keyboard on that thing was excellent - best mobile I've ever used. The keyboard on this one has a lot of give but I'll get used to it. I love the dual hard drive ability - don't love the $50 I have to shell out to HP just to get the caddy to hold the drive. :(

All in all - I have no regrets. Great machine so far!

to check the cpu i believe you a program like intel tat, but you can check the gpu temp with nvidia by right clicking and choosing laptop display. while we are sort of on this topic, does anybody have problems with excessive fan noise on their dv9000 and what are some of your gpu temps? mine with run 65 celcius with just aim and itunes open if it isnt propped up on something :/
i contacted hp and they say it is normal but the fan is bugging me

It is highly possible that the optical drive want's to see the disc information, to ensure a DVD disc is in the drive. DVD-RW and DVD-R do not contain certain information on the leading edge of the media, information that tells the player it is reading a DVD, without seeking for .vob files and VTS. DVD+R media comes with this information already imbedded (this information is imbedded further to the edge then a burner can print). This is why some older DVD players will not play films recorded on DVD-R and DVD-RW media, but they will play DVD+R media.

It is also possible they require them to eliminate ink degradation. RW media uses an unstable ink for write purposes. I suspect they just don't want issues with PO'ed customers who's burned recovery discs are corrupted. Not too sure on the + as opposed to the -, but here again I suspect ink quality. While a Taiyo Yuden DVD-R mag will be a higher quality then a CNC+R mag, It is highly unlikely a CNC-R mag will be as good as a CNC+R mag.
