I'm coming over from a dell side of things where EVERY other thread is about how their LCD sucks and so on.
Having been browsing the HP side of forums, I don't see any threads about LCDs.
Are you guys THAT satisfied with them? They really that good and no one has a complaint? anything at all?
I have a 2500t that was shipped yesterday and should be here by friday and I was wondering what LCD I may expect. I really need to settle down and have a computer.
Any LCD horror stories?
-
My dv2000t has an AUO screen, and it's wonderful.
Clear, bright, and no grain.
My dv1000's SEC screen sucked, though. -
I have no complaints about my screen either. It is rich and vibrant, with no dead/stuck pixels.
-
Ditto..............
-
My dv2500t has an AUO screen and its good in clarity and colour reproduction. Just wish it could have been 2 or 3 levels brighter. Other than that its great!
-
My compaq presario v3417la has a beatiful, crystal clear screen. I know Dell screens sucks, we saw several here at work and only the XPS has a decent screen.Acer screens are bad too. I think HP screens are the best.
-
Same here. Although mine is a dv9500t, I got to say that this my first laptop and decided HP 'cause I had seen their LCD qualities over Dell's. You won't regret!!!
-
the only knock on the HP screens is that because they only offer brightviews, there may be a glare when working under direct light say the sun. I have the ultra brightview (2 LCD bulbs) in my dv9500t and i love the display.
-
HP dv2122tu, LPL screen. Clear, bright and nice.
-
How can you tell what kind of LCD screen you have?
-
Hp have never had the same sort of screen issues as Dell but they do use several suppliers and there are some which are worse than others. A while back SEC(Samsung) screens used in the dv2000t received several complaints due to poor brightness and contrast compared to the other supplier LCD's HP used.
Look in device Manager--> Moniors--> PlugnPlay(double click)-->Details Tab--> device Instance ID's-->and you should see something like this...
DISPLAY\ CMO1324\4&30E.....
The highlighted part is the manufacturer/model number. -
same question here,
how do you check for the manufacture of the screen?
-
DISPLAY\LPLE800\5&592C510&0&UID280
i read it somewhere that it is LG , if its not then somebody please tell -
Bought Presario v6420, the LCD screen is good but not great while viewing dvd movie.
-
You can use free diagnostic utilities that will tell you what manufacturer and when it was manufactured. FreshDiagnose is one.
HP has also used "old" LCDs that were manufactured years earlier. I got a 9500t in June that had an LCD manufactured in January of 2005. I'm not sure what to think about that. -
Mine's an NVD0800, whatever that means. Still, it's a vibrant, crisp display, with no dead and no stuck pixels.
To make the colours pop even more, I up the digital vibrance by 25% via Nvidia Control Panel. -
mines an LPL (LG?), I would say its on par with sony xbrite eco's ,but not hi colors.
-
after some search i found out that LPL is LG-Philips
-
i used everest to check which monitor i have in my new dv6500t se, and i'm piss. it does look gorgeous but everest says the brand is SAMSUNG and it was manufactured in 2004, my laptop monitor is really olddddd
-
What BIOS revision do you currently have in your notebook? The most recent BIOS display that string instead of the LCD model. Older BIOS(F.13) used to display the correct monitor manufacturer.
Unlikely it would have been manufactured back in '04 considering the supply is low while demand is quite high for LCD's. These programs sometimes do display inaccurate information. -
I'm on the latest F.34
-
My new dv6500t has a LPLDB00 which is a LG I believe. Its brillant.
-
Thats what it display one mine with the latest BIOS as well. Downgrade to F.13 if you want to see the real manufacturer of the screen.
-
I've seen plenty of Laptop screens in my profession, and I can honestly say that HP has the best screen I've come across. I just received my DV9500t in the mail yesterday and the screen is amazing. The image quality is amazing, as well as the color, definition, brightness (I only have the brightview, and I've heard the Ultra-Brightview is amazing), and the list goes on. You won't be in the screen if you go with an HP laptop.
-
well if u downgrade to f 13, u cant get f 34 back can u? since hp slacks on bios updates
-
I have a dv9500t with the 1680x1050 screen. It is very nice, I just wish they had an option for 1900x1200.
-
I dont think so...I have both F.13 as well as F.34 downloaded from HP's website. My system shipped with the original initial release BIOS and have tested almost all BIOS which was released to the public.
EDIT: Are you asking about the dv2500t, if so then the BIOS is going to be different from what I suggested above for mystery905. -
I just received my dv2500t, it looks like my LCD is an SEC4642 (Samsung I assume). Does this mean I have one of the lower quality LCDs? Or was that just on the dv2000ts?
Thanks. -
well do you like it? does it look good to you?
if so then it's good for you. -
What he/she said is true. I wouldnt just return a perfectly fine working notebook just because some others seem to dislike the LCD. In the end you have to look at the screen everyday and work with it and your opinion is all that matters when it comes to this.
-
It's not bad looking at the screen straight on, however viewing the screen at an angle(even at a small angle), there's a definate quality loss. Does anyone with a samsung screen with their dv2500t see the same thing? Is that normal?
Thanks again.
Sorry for all the questions, this is my first laptop. -
My HP Compaq nw8440 screen is okay, but it could be better. The viewing angles are decent, but it needs to be brighter. The brightness of the screen is perfect....when it's set at max. brightness. Anything below that is useless unless you're in a very dark environment. Also, the colors tend to be very cool and muted; I would prefer a warmer, more vibrant picture.
I've also noticed "dirty pixels": It appears to be dirt that's within the LCD itself. I've considered having the LCD replaced, but I never thought it was really worth waiting over; besides, it doesn't really bother me much anymore.
EDIT: My screen is a 15.4" WUXGA SEC (Samsung) display -
Fresh Diagnose says the screen in my dv6400 is QDS. It has the brightest and most vivid display compared to my past HP units. The v5201 is much darker when put side by side.
-
I just LPLE800
It's beautiful thought a little tricky on viewing angle.
my LG i just got is also little tricky on viewing angle so you can't really expect a perfect LCD. Just a good is good for me.
Dell couldn't even satisfy my GOOD condition let alone, Excellent LOL. -
New 8510p rm263ut. Blue/Green dead subpixels x2 top left, hardly noticeable unless I stare directly at them up close thanks to the higher resolution.
Very good horizontal viewing angles, good vertical (I don't need to look at it more than 30 degrees off axis). I haven't come across better angles on a non S-IPS laptop panel yet.
Brighter than my previous T60 w/ FlexView (and thusly more usable outside), very nice color rendition. Neutral whites. I'm impressed. -
Which panel do you ahve? I have a Quanta and I'm less than impressed.
-
My 8510w came with a cmo based screen. Its a WSXGA+ 15.4inch LCD. Its nothing special, but there is nothing wrong with it. Solid viewing angels, enough brightness for me, and colors that are accurate on a matte finish. Not more I could ask for. The only thing is its a bit grainy due to the coating for its anti-glare coating. Its only noticeable in word type apps, otherwise, no big deal.
-
I would return it if I were you. Ask to speak with a manager if the lower level doesn't work. You shouldn't have to settle for something subpar.
-
QDS003F, so Quanta it seems. I'm shocked myself, considering what I here about them.. unless it's just one or two panels that aren't great and generalizations are being drawn about their entire production line. I was expecting LG with what I've seen. I've owned a few LGs, ViewSonics, and a FlexView. Spent lots of time on Samsung and Dell PVAs.
This one is bright, evenly lit, and accurate colour-wise (for a non-calibrated laptop lcd, that is; I'm not comparing it to a studio CRT). Hey, if it's a total abnormality because all Quantas suck, then I consider myself lucky enough to have it -- she's great. I even had her outside today. It was light overcast with hazy rain, but I could still turn her down a notch or two in brightness and have room to spare.
...now if only there were updated drivers for xp and the hd2600. -
I've had my dv6500t for a few weeks now, and I really like the screen.
-
So I have a defective screen it seems? Looking closely, whites appear more "pinkish" on the leftside of the screen.
-
Great screen on my 9500. No problems at all!
-
I like my LG-Phillp on miy 2500t
-
i guess i like mine,its a brightview 1280x800 15.4 incher.wot can you expect for a notebook that was only 500£
-
I also have QDS003F, and other than a few minor pixel problems and the always mentioned lack of brightness, the quality is great :O
-
i have a General PnP Monitor i think, is that good? it seems too bright as the black looks kinda grayish but it still looks real nice
-
Your mgfr is not showing up in device manager (like mine), so I used Fresh Diagnose to tell me the screen manufacturer.
http://www.freshdevices.com/freshdiag.html -
thanks R4000, just figured out i gotta LGPhilipsLCD
manufactured on January 2006 (week 0) -
I love the screen on my dv6500, but I really, really really wish it was higher res. My last laptop (an Acer TM800) had a 1400x1050 15" screen. My work monitor runs at 1600x1200. Coming home to my laptop and living in 1200x800 just feels so restrictive!
It's the one thing I wish I could change about my laptop - everything else is great. Why don't HP offer a higher res screen as an option?!
Are you satisfied with your LCD screen?
