Insurance offered me the choice of the DV6331 or DV2530, after my DV2036 was stolen. Both have 2GB of RAM and Vista, but which is likely to be better for games? The Core 2 Duo with the Intel X3100, or the Turion 64 X2 with the Geforce 7400.

    All advice appreciated!

    Cheers,

    David.

If you play games, get the dv6331, if not, the dv2530.

The 2530 is newer, which means it is worth more. That and the fact it is Santa Rosa platform, even thought it doesn't utilise many of the features.

The x3100 recently got updated drivers which some claim has boosted game compatibility and performance. There are battery saving to be had with a x3100, plus C2Duo is much better than AMD Turion.

Whoa, is this dv2530 from HP direct? Because the presence of the "30" at the end seems to suggest that it's a retail model. And I would sure like to start seeing the dv25xx series in brick and mortar stores right about now. :D

They've been in Comet Online Store for a while, but PC World are extremely slow to get any new models in. Im not sure if what Comet sells online is avaliable in store.

Yeah, the 2530 is in Comet stores in the UK - they will instruct the store to put aside whichever model I choose for collection. It even comes with the fingerprint reader... which almost makes it win by default. :)

Went for the 2530 in the end - incredibly impressed. Now I know why everyone raves about the Core 2 Duo. ;-)

Also like all the freebies I got with it, like the Expresscard TV tuner and full MCE remote control. Still playing with the fingerprint reader and lightscribe drive. Cheers for the advice. Interestingly, the X3100 seems more capable than the 6150 in the dv2000.
