What do you guys think, I mean I suppose I'll be an occasional gamer from time to time, but with the Wii coming out soon, that may change. My main drawback is the price difference, it may take me a month longer to save up to get the asus, so what would you guys do in my shoes?

The Asus would kick the pants off of that HP notebook wrt gaming...but in general usage you probably won't notice a difference (other than build quality and support...which I've never had ASUS so I won't comment).
However, if you're going to be an occasional gamer...I'd get the ASUS. It'll last longer in that department than the HP would. Spend a little more now, get the notebook you really want, and not have to buy another notebook in the future nearly as quickly. That's my opinion. -
The performance difference between the two (especially in gaming) would be quite noticeable. GPUs are the weakest part of most HP notebooks, unfortunately. While I do like HP notebooks, in this case, I'd say be patient and save for another month if you plan on even occasional gaming. If you don't feel that's that big of a deal, you could throw more money into the HP notebook to get some better options on it.
