Any general information about the differences between these two processors would be great. Now, specifically...

I'm looking at a Pavilion zv5000z, and wondering if it would make sense for me to go with an AMD Athlon 64 or XP-M. I'm college-bound, going from the east coast to the west coast so I don't want anything too heavy that would make transporting a hassle. There are some spots on my campus that are wireless, so I'll probably transport it around campus occasionally. However, I'm planning on using this computer for running a 32-track recording program called ProTracks Plus, probably the most demanding software I'll use. This requires a 7200 RPM Hard Drive, which I plan to get from Hitachi and replace. If I chose an Athlon XP-M, would there be a significant weight decrease and battery-life increase, and would it be worth giving up some performance? Or do you think getting an Athlon 64 would be better?
