I have the GQ61-420US with the 320M dual processor, IDT sound chip with latest driver, plus updated video driver (etc.) now running Win7 64, and have a strange audio delay problem, first discovered when attempting multi-tracking music. In fact, if I just have the monitoring enabled on the built-in microphone, and tap on the computer there is about a 1/10 sec. delay when it comes out of the speaker. I downloaded a latency checker program mentioned elsewhere on this board, but it doesn't show much of a problem. I don't believe the CPU is overtaxed here, and believe it might be driver-related. I've checked the IDT control panel, which is rather bare-bones, having no settings for effects such as delay that I might have inadvertantly checked.

Anybody have any suggestions as to what might be causing this?

The latency is normal if you're using DirectSound, DPC latency is another animal and it causes sound dropouts/clicks not lag. Think of DPC latency as buffer underruns. For your sound lag problems use ASIO4ALL. ;)

base level chipset/inf drivers, then update disk, graphics, and audio drivers.

once you know for a fact that all of your drivers, not just the sound drivers, are fully up to date then try some loaded-system tests.

2x on the ASIO audio drivers. Most of the big-name/quality media players at least let you use ASIO as an optional if not the primary playback codec interface.

if you must run an anti-virus program, run just one. try msft security essentials instead of trend, norton, mcafee, etc. you wouldn't believe how many people run 2 and 3 anti-vir programs and then complain about sluggish systems and 'latency' in their audio and video playback.

Since i upgraded all my home machines to Win7, stopped using msie in favor ofopera, stopped using Acrobat reader in favor of foxit and sumatra, I haven't been running a real-time anti-vir scanner. 6 machines, 1+ year, no live anti-vir, no 'infections'. They all get occasional full scans with Malwarebytes product, but still, no infections.

I haven't used a real-time AV for... 4 years 'n counting. 4 everyday machines, one XP, one Vista and the two 7 laptops. No virus, even though i do lots of dubious stuff on teh interwebz. I always say this - the best antivirus is common sense.

Opera? Happy user for 4 years. Foxit Reader? Happy user for 3 years. You do have to be careful on the Foxit Reader setup tho as they try to sneak the Ask toolbar into your computer, but who doesn't these days... and hey, Opera doesn't take extra toolbars so it doesn't matter anyway. :D
