I want to hook up a stereo to my zv5000. There is a mic jack (with a little picture of a microphone) and a headphone jack. When I hook up the stereo into the mic jack, it's all distorted.[V] This must be a mic level only input? Can I change it to line level input?

    Thanks for any help.

yeah, that's a good idea, but I don't think that'll work well enough.

I bought a little USB device that is made for different audio inputs, so I guess I'll have to use that to input audio into my computer.

That should work well. The new TV tuners coming out are USB based as well, so it should be ok.

I don't think that can be done. I don't know if they have a Line-In option for this notebook. You can purchase an optional cable that attaches to the little connector on the right side of your notebook. It's an all-in-one media cable that HP supplies, but it's for output only. One thing you can try is to output from your stereo's headphone line to the mic in on your notebook. This will lower the signal enough so that it doesn't overwhelm the mic port. Plus, try lowering the MIC volume in the mixer settings.

I figured it out. The mic input now works with line level inputs as well.

I went to control panel, sounds speech & audio devices, then sounds & audio devices, click on the audio tab, then click volume in the sound recording section. From there, I forgot what I did next, but it was easy and it worked. Now I can input from my stereo, guitar, etc. all line level. Works like a charm. AWESOME! [ :D]

Congrats! I totally forgot about those settings. I've never really had to use them so it was in the back of my mind.
