I connected the HDMI port from my 8710w to my HDTV, and all I get is the video but no sound.

How do I get sound to play through my HDTV using HDMI?

Problem solved. Here's what worked for me:

    1. right click the speaker icon in the lower right, choose playback devices
    2. change the default to SPDIF Digital Output Device from Speaker
    3. under properties, supported formats tab, change to microsoft wma pro audio and untick the other 2 options
    4. set sampling rate set to 48.0khz

    Good to go!

M.I. III on blueray rocks even with my $5.99 (plus tax) el cheapo HDMI cables.

psyheah - what kind of cable do you have - what kind of connectors does it have? femal-female or male-male? (it's a tad offtopic, but i need to buy such a cable for my cousin for her note' yet i have no access either to the rig nor to the tv)

It's male on both ends. They are 10' long, have gold plated connectors, and I paid $5.99 per piece at Fry's in San Marcos in Nov.
