As i understand this differs from one machine to another. Does anyone know how much RAM that will be available with the following combination. HP HDX running Windows Vista 32 bit with 4 GB of RAM. I asked this question to the HP support chat and they could not answer.

I have heard everything between 2.5 to 4 GB. What's correct?

    Thanks!!!

first you need to understand how the 32-bit overhead works. it is basically ALL memmory adressing (incl. the graphic card and other memmory inside the computer; fall under the 4GB adressing limit bracket)

so if your HP HDX comes with 4GB of RAM and 256mb of GFX Memmory; its 4GB - 256 = +/_ 3.7GB. roughly the RAM is 3.7. or if it comes with 512mb GFX Memmory; its 4GB - 512 = +/_ 3.5GB.

    Get it?

Yeah, i get it. I've got a 256MB graphic card so, i should get at least 3.5GB left then. I can't think of anything stealing memory except for the graphic board. TV tuner maybe??

    Anyway, thanks for explaining!!!
