I've found a deal on craigslist, supposedly this laptop is in perfect condition and I can get it for $300, however I've read that it usually runs into a lot of problems like, overheating, and screens that just stop working. Also notice, that they discontinued the product.

So, should I just avoid this, not worth the risk?

Depends. The dv6700 has been out of production for a while now and the models which had issues were the ones which shipped with Nvidia graphics/chipset. If the one you are looking at is using the Intel IGP, then it might not have the same problems. Of course, since you are buying used it also depends on how well the previous owner took care of the system.

$300 isn't bad, but I would agree with miner to stay away from one with the Nvidia chipset! If you do get it definitely buy a laptop cooler or it will burn up quick. I think the problem with the monitor screens going out on these models was the power inverter which is an easy fix, but will happen again and again.
