I have also tried installing XP with drivers from dv6000 machine, but the random crashing problem still occurred. I have a year more of replacement warranty left and I plan to keep sending laptop till its works fine or I get a replacement and hence draining some money out of crooked HP. And I am wondering, instead of actually doing research for my Phd in Computer Engineering, I am dealing with this useless HP for buying their top of the line product. Never again HP. Not even their printers. I will buy Samsung printers but not HP, NEVER.

First of all, you didn't get tricked into buying a Vista machine. All personal laptops from manufacturers have been selling their machines with Vista for quite some time, and they no longer support XP. This is because Microsoft gives them deals on Vista to try and push their new OS. Basically, the only way you can get XP on machines anymore is buying the business lines, because they know that nobody in the business world wants Vista yet.

I can see how you are pissed off and very annoyed with the entire process that you've had to go through, I would be too. I'm sure other people know what the exactly policy is, but if your laptop has to be sent in for repairs multiple times for the same problem a lemon policy should go into effect and they should give you a new laptop. If you search around for other posts of people's problems you will see that HP does offer giving you a new laptop if you've sent it in so many times.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, thats the plan. Keep sending the laptop again and again for repairs and then complaint to BBB. Thats the only way out. I have given upon trying to fix this problem and have no more interest to try installing XP again.

I am forced to buy a desktop (probably a Dell) for my work while this $1400 investment on HP goes to dustbin, at least for now.

Reby, you're so wrong. HP hired a hitman and held a gun up to his head, forcing him to not only purchase Vista, but a service plan. Service plans are 50% profit, 20% of which was commission for the hitman.

They should give him a new computer and a bar of gold for what he's gone through. The Lemon Law (a company is entitled to 3 repairs before having to replace a unit under warranty) does not apply to the OP as he is above the law. Because he bought the laptop, not only claiming it as his, but actually shelling out REAL MONEY for it, he's entitled to better support. Not outsourced stuff. Instead, HP should be required to hire him a personal midget robot that works on his command, 24/7/36 6.

Get with it. His computer is crap (the hardware itself, not ID10T or PEBKAC). The bottom line is that the computer broke. And computers cannot break. Manufacturers should be required to have a 0% failure rate, especially when HP knew that they were dealing with the OP. This is ridiculous.
