AMD drivers on Windows update. I wan't paying attention and they got installed...Black Screen. Am in the process of trying to reinstall drivers from HP, to no success...on third try and can't get switchable graphics going again. Cleaning registry, etc...to see what I can do. DO NOT let Windows update put these drivers in your system!!!!

I saw them last night and promptly hid the update before I too accidentally installed it. Good luck!

Wow thats really quite something. So whats gonna be the best way to update the graphics driver(s) then for future reference?
Straight from AMD? Will those include the CCC and the latest drivers for the Intel graphics card as well? -
Heh I just plan on paying attention to the threads on this forum.

I mainly update direct from HP; at least then I know I'll have proper support and will work 99% of the time. That works for now as the Envy is new and development is still ongoing, as long as you don't require the latest and greatest drivers too. In the future, I'll probably have to relegate myself to direct download of drivers from AMD. I'm hoping by then switchable graphics will be easier to support with minimal headache.

Yeah, Nvidia hasn't allowed Microsoft to update their drivers in a very long time. AMD needs to get them to stop. This time, fixing the issue was a real bear. Took three installs of the latest drivers to get CCC to work. Once done, I updated to Catalyst 11.8 and all is good again...

MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
yeah. windows update + switchable graphics laptops is kinda...well it never works

Hmm, I'm not being offered the graphics optional update, just some certificate revocation update.

Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
What was the update? 11.5? ATI suggested I update from 11.5 to 11.7, then a couple days later, after the Windows Update (I didn't look at what it was), it suggested I update from 11.5 to 11.7 again. Was that due to Windows Update, or was it simply that the first update didn't take (it often doesn't for me, for some reason)? Either way, I didn't notice any problems with my GPU performance or drivers in the meantime.

Why would you update drivers via Windows Update??
The updates show up if the Windows doesn't have or have later version of the base driver entry.
Windows doesn't really check against what you installed yourself.
If you happen to have a later version installed than what Windows Update offer and installed it, of course issues might arise.

I have Windows update set to let me know of updates, but I choose what to install. Somehow, these slipped past me and got installed. I never install anything that isn't Microsoft Windows or Microsoft Office...but this one, somehow made it in. Cleaned up now and still part of my update history...
BEWARE Windows Update 9/7/11
