Any suggestions? for a DIY approuch

After downloading and installing a BIOS update from the HP site my ZE5570 went into shutdown mode, and never came back, when you turn it on i get my wireless blue key light up and the CD has power, but nothing else, no light for the HDD and power etc.
Any suggestions as to what to do.
I understand their might be a hard reset, via the board but couldnt find it.
HP support ( not the easiest people to understand) are arrangeing for the laptop to be pickedup, but after 3 bookings for fedex to pick up, i am looking for an option that mean i might be able to use my laptop again this side of the year

    many thanks in advance

On my zv5000z, the CMOS clear jumper is in the second SODIMM bay, two copper pads that are drawn as if they "lock" together. Short the pads (with the notebook unplugged and battery removed). I don't know if HP is consistent about these things though, probably not.

I doubt that'll get you up and running though. You'll probably have to send it in for service. There's been a rash of HP notebooks failing their BIOS upgrades lately. I suspect they've been recently manufactured ones too. I've done several upgrades of mine without incident, but it was built back in March. Some recently-built machines have been having problems with PC3200 RAM, too (they ship with PC2700 but PC3200 really ought to work).

    Hi icantlogoff,
If you don't want to void your warranty if the notebook is still under warranty, then don't open it up or short out anything unless instructed to do so by HP support. Anyways a failed BIOS update does not have anything to do with the contents of the CMOS memory; if the flashing of the BIOS update fails, the only option is to send it in for them to repair. There is always a risk involved with flashing the BIOS, so it should not be done unless it is to fix an issue that you are having problems with. Unless of course the notebook is under warranty and you can afford to be without it for a week or two if the flash fails. A BIOS update should not be taken lightly, they will work fine with no problems 98% of the time but if your in that small percentage that fail then your notebook needs to go in for them to fix.

    good luck
    Jack

    icantlogoff and others,
I downloaded a BIOS for my zx5078cl recently that was posted on the HP business support site, not the other support site. After using the new BIOS for a week, I went back to an older version because all of my power management features were causing a blue screen followed by an abrupt restart.

And I don't even want to talk about why my HP wireless drivers don't seemlessly integrate with Win XP SP 2...
