You have a 64bit capable system but running on a 32 bit operating system. The best way to identify the bit rate currently ruuning is to take a look at the system properties menu in the Vista Welcome center.

Well, you can use 4GB RAM in the system but due to the limitations of the 32bit OS usable amount of memory will be limited to ~3GB. Install a 64bit OS and the system should be able to make use of the 4GB RAM.

    1. You would have to purchase it.

    or

    2. You can get a 64bit OS media(CD/DVD) and then use your current 32bit product key and use it with the 64bit version. Ofcourse in this case you have a 32bit Home Premium then you can only install the 64bit Home Premium.

Yes a clean install is the best route.

Stallen's clean install guide is EXCELLENT. I followed it to the letter, and it worked well with my 64-bit install. 64-bit does have some issues with backwards compatibility as it does not allow any unsigned drivers. I have found the only application it broke in my case was ironically Microsoft Groove. Other then that it works fine. It also is more secure, and in some cases minimally faster.

since my computer will on pick up 3gb of RAM, does it make since to buy 4gb or should i only buy 3gb of RAM. 2GB in one slot and 1 Gb on the other slot.
