I was planning on putting XP on my new dv4-1220us this weekend, but I keep getting a BSOD when booting off of the XP CD. The BSOD occurs at the end of the driver loading phase and a little internet research has shown that the error code means "Inaccessable Boot Device". Do I need to install SATA drivers? If so, can I do this from a CD or USB key? I do not own a USB floppy drive and have no desire to buy one.

you need to slipstream the SATA/IDE drivers of your laptop into your XP CD. you will need to make a slipstreamed XP CD from another computer. there is a program called nLite that will allow you to load the SATA drivers onto an XP image and make an ISO so you can burn and use. this should allow you to get XP to install on your laptop. you can load all your drivers onto it as well along with customized settings. here is a link to nLite: http://www.nliteos.com/
