Laptop boots but then crashes when logging into any user.
Laptop will boot into safe mode.

Daughter has a DV6T running Vista. We left automatic updates on thinking it would prevent hackers. She left the laptop hibernating over night and when she woke up it was crashed.

What's happening is Windows is installing a new video driver.

We ran system restore and restored to a previous point which was in the middle of the night. Lucky for us, this worked and the laptop came back to life.

If you can't run system restore in safe mode, then try rolling back the video driver. To do this bring up your device manager, find the video driver, click on properties, and roll back. If there's no driver to roll back to then that tab won't be dark.

Here's another thread of someone asking for help.

If you hear of people who get a BSOD after doing nothing, suggest they try system restore or roll back the video driver. Then turn off automatic updates until we hear more info. Pass this information around to all message boards.
