    Hello,
I have dv2000t and i want to dim my laptop screen. Of course there is little control with Fn+F7 and Fn+F8 but even on the lowest level the backlight is too bright (i've compered it to several other laptops).
Is there any software or any other method to make it darker?

I'm pretty sure the levels of brightness are fixed on the motherboard or the screen, I am yet to find an application that gives me more than the 8 levels of brightness on my XPS M1210

The controls that you are using is the only way to dim or brighten the screen. There is no other way to make it go any darker, anyways, why would you want a darker screen? I mean usually people complain that a screen isn't bright enough and that's why they buy the ultra-brightview.

There is a way, I forgot the method, but if you have an nVidia GPU, there's a settings in the nVidia advance tab. On my DV6500T, I use the FN+F7 and FN+F8 to adjust the brightness and it was still very bright, so I went into the nVidia settings and adjust the contrast and brightness there even further.

I'm at work so I really can't recall where exactly where in the nVidia settings but I'll post an update later when I get home from work.

How is the screen too bright for you guys? Are you using it in a pitch black environment? or do you have extra sensitive eyes? JK

I can see the contrast working with Nvidia's settings though and that should help.

Sensitive eyes and bad eyes! lol I like mine low. Even with lights on it is still bright even when I tune the brightness down to the lowest using the FN+F7.

If your dv200t has a nVidia GPU, here's how to adjust the brightness and contrast:

Right-click on the desktop, select NVIDIA Control Panel.

On the left hand side, under Display, click on Adjust Desktop Color Settings.

You can make the changes on the right side.

Sure, usually when i use my laptop i want it to be bright but sometimes i want it to be just readable and to last on a battery for as long as possible. This is very useful.

Thanks for the answer BUT.. I have Intel graphic card and Brightness isn't the adjustment i'm looking for.. I want to turn down backlight. Brightness only manipulate the picture generated by graphic card.

On my zx5000, when I change backlight with ctrl F7/F8. Lowest setting is so dark and can't even read the screen. I've only used that when the room is completely dark with no other lighting (and I've had to view screen right after waking up and my eyes need to adjust etc) and even then its a tad too dark. But, normally its on the brightest setting.

I have the Ultra brightview coming as I like a nice bright screen.

Agreed with above. My nw8440 is the exact same way (the backlight adjustments are mapped to FN F9/F10, though). Maybe an HP Compaq business notebook with a matte finish screen would be good for you.

I'm not sure how you can make the screen any dimmer with what you have already, though. Did you get the standard BrightView or the Ultra BrightView screen?

Using the screen at dimmer settings is good for eyestrain (to a point of course). Think about whether it's more comfortable reading text on a lightbulb that is off versus one that is on.
