I have a backlight issue, I have changed my my lcd screen and inverter but I still get really dim light on my lcd screen.

All the cables are secure and no damage is on them. I believe the problem lies with my lid switch as I get some light on screen if I stretch the monitor really far back (120 degrees or so). But where is this lid switch??

I have looked everywhere near the hinges and took out the keyboard and hinges of the laptop in an attempt to find it? Please help!!

Please don't crosspost all over :)

Have you looked for service manual at HP support website already? It could have pictures showing the location.

Some newer models don't have visible switch, instead they use magnet inside the lid that triggers the switch when closed. That can very well be in the palm rest or anywhere else.

I went thru that manual also, didn't find the switch... I'd guess it's a magnet inside the display lid and the the switch itself on the motherboard since there is no mention of the cable anywhere.

You could try to open laptop as far as possible so the light turns on and then run a magnet across the top part, the switch should react. Also you should be able to find the magnet if you run a screwdriver (or whatever metallic) over the lid.

One thought: have you tried to replace the LCD cable. Most of the time they break inside, one or two of the wires just snap.

Thanks for your time in looking through the manual. I've not opened up the laptop whilst it powered up. So I could try what you suggested with the magnet and screw driver.

I was fiddling with the LCD screen cable earlier, making sure it's secure and stuff. You could be right as, there is always the left hand side of the screen that is completely dark. The right hand side gets some light if I pull screen really really back. Also, the left hand side of the inverter has a two in one cable that connects the inverter to the screen and motherboard..
