As the title says, is there any option to have a backlighted keybaord for HDX16?
The volume, Smart, Treble/Bass, Bluetooth etc are backlighted but
    keyboard its not.
So can the keyboard be replaced and assign the backlight keybaord?
I guess not but some of you might a lot of these kinda things.

The reason why I want its not that bling bling crap.
Sometimes i do like to play games or wanna surf on the internet at night.

There should be back lighted keyboard in your HDX16, I have one and it's there, press fn+space to turn it on, I had a hard time figuring out how to turn it on ^^

    Ahaha just FN+Space?
    I'll try it out later.

Im still having a hard time to make the system recovery working.
XP must have change some files so the F11 is not working.
So I was searching here and founded it has something with the MBR.
The recovery partition is still 9GB so it must somehow working.

Uh, unless you actually specified you wanted a backlit keyboard when you bought it, you're not going to have one (I don't remember anyone locally selling the HDX 16/18 with a backlit keyboard).

If you have one already, there's going to be a icon on the left side of the spacebar, otherwise, you'll have to buy one and install it.

Don't know if that depends on where you live, but I got mine and I didn't buy a custom one so to say, I didn't decide what to put in it etc. And I bought mine in a store if that matters.

    I live in the Netherlands.
I've contacted Best2Serve and they have sended the System Recovery Kit.
When recovered the notebook, I'll try that FN option.
If its not working, then there is not much to do.
Ebay doesnt have the blacklit keyboard anymore.
Many links I have found around this forum are death.

Does anyone know the recovery partition can be restored when using the recovery discs?
I succeeded to boot into recovery using EasyBCD.
But then I got the error "Error 100a, contact HP it this error keeps coming"

Second question, do I have to enter the Windows Vista key license when using the recovery discs?

    These are the last question.

    I aplogize for many questions.
Im only worrdied because its the greatest notebook ever I bought.
I had been playing a whole year GTA4 and always enjoyed it.

    And sorry for typo's.
Im using a Sony Vaio at the moment and keyboard is not so handy for me.

Sorry that I can't answer all of your questions but about the license key, you shouldn't have to type it in after recovery discs since I've done that myself on the HDX16 and never had to type in some serial :)

Ah ok, thanks a lot for your answer and nice you have a HDX16 too.

And to the other member who has replied about an icon the spacebar.
I dont have an icon on the spacebar.
Does it depends in wich region I bought the notebook?

    Futher update on a problem.
    I have contacted HP service.
Im better off going to a computershop and repair it.
Or better said, applying a new harddisk.
I think its very expensive, but I do like to stick with this notebook.
The stupid XP has modified the system recovery.
An important lesson, never ever downgrade a notebook.
Otherwise you'll loose anything important and aswell as the system recovery.

No problem glad I can help :) I don't use my HDX16 anymore since I bought the Envy 17 but I loved all the time I had with the HDX :) And I do miss the awesome keyboard on it :p

If you don't have that icon on your space bar I doubt that you actually have the backlighted keyboard :( I'm not sure but I have one on the left side of the spacebar it's like a mini keyboard icon with some lights above so, but you're getting a new keyboard with backlight?

Nice, 17 inch notebook sounds promising.
    Nice big *ss notebook.

Well, I dont wanna mod my notebook otherwise the keys will be -ed up.
The keyboard feels so soft and easy.
So I have decided not to mod it.
If something works good, no need to screw it up.
    Thats my moto.

Edit, I founded out its true there should be an icon spacebar.
    I've seen it from Youtube.

I live in Europe too :) But when I bought my HDX in a store called OnOff I didn't even know there was a back light keyboard, I found that out by checking the side of the box it came in, and then after a quick google search I found out on how to turn it on, since I couldn't figure that out myself ^^

    Nice find.
When there is an icon on keys, it means you can adjust by FN+icon key.

Could be, I only know it works for the backlight, you have any other icons? Or I do think FN+ like brightness keys will turn down/up the screen brightness and FN+prt sc takes a screen shot, more then that I don't remember using FN for :)

Yea :) That was one thing that annoyed me, I wanted to press on prt sc to get the screenshot not fn+prt sc but it wasn't a big deal :)

    I get what you mean.
Sometimes in games I do like to capture funny moments.
But when needing FN+Prtscr, the details will go away.
But like you said, its not a big deal.

Go can use the program Grabby, it's easy and collects all print screens in a folder so you can check them when you've done playing :) Just google Grabby and you'll find it :)

I recovered my notebook yesterday and all was good.
So I tried the FN+Space, nothing happened.
So I'll buy a backlit keybaord.

Sadley there are no backlits anymore for this type of notebook.
Does anyone know where to purchase one?

And ow, how do I replace the keyboard?
    Google didnt gave usefull results.
They most are for HDX18 and HDX16 13xx series.
    Mine's a 1000 series.

It's all the same keyboard, but you'll have to take out a few screws and take off the speaker grill, silver keyboard trim and unplug the keyboard's ribbon cable. Shouldn't take more than 20 minutes... if you know what you're doing.

There's a link to the disassembly PDF somewhere on the board..

Yh, I guess it something like that.

I have found few backlit keyboard on ebay but the seller
    didnt response to my emails.

So I found a site in my countrey, so I'll buy that one.
And its also exact original HP kyboard.
Price is a bit pricey but I'd like to keep things original haha

EDIT, I noticed two screws wich has a keyboard icon on it.
