Has anyone managed to put a backlit keyboard on their older-style dv7t?

I want to know this also, or check if there is any keyboard panel to fit to the dv7 space to replace to this one.

Probably need to check with hp if there is a compatible keyboard of them with backlit for the dv7

I doubt the people at HP will be of any help. I can imagine the conversation going like this:
"Hi this is Navenna how can I help you?"
"I'd like to know if any of the backlit keyboards will fit on my dv7t"
"I'm sorry sir your laptop did not come with a backlit keyboard"
"Yes, I know. I'd like to replace mine with a backlit keyboard"
"Oh okay sir, I'm sorry to hear that your keyboard isn't working, I will do my best to help resolve tihs issue"
"No, its not broken, I just want to know if another one will fit"
"I'm sorry to hear that its not broken, if you'd like to send it in for replacement I can send a box"

    Rinse and repeat...

That will fit into a DV7, but that is not the problem you'll face.

Since the DV7 had no capability for a backlit keyboard, where would you plug in it's power connection?

In addition, you might have no control over its brightness, as no app interface to it as well.

IIRC all keyboards need power to work. Depending on how much power, the backlit keyboard might work. I'm not sure its worth $40 bucks just to try it out.

Yes, da9, all KB's need power to work, however the backlit keyboards frequently do not receive power to the LED's from the main KB interface cable.

If you look at the photo of the example one given, I know that will fit into a DV7, but that other 3 line ribbon is for the LED power (3 line because it would also be like a rheostat for dimming thru software), and if your laptop is not designed for it, you ahve no where to plug it in, etc.

ah I see. I'm re-posting that picture for future reference once that sale goes away:

I wonder if it uses a connection for a fan. I know a lot of motherboards use adjustable fans (potentiometers).

Also, the HDX uses the same port layout on either side of the computer and uses the same video card. I bet its the same motherboard...

EDIT: Check out this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=419998

But, I just noticed, that keyboard posted has a really small number pad, whereas my dv7t has a full size number pad.

Fans are now controlled with PWM logic, a pot won't do anymore.
