right now i have two laptop, one is a Acer Aspire, and a pavilion DV9500.
Would like to know if you guys are aware of a way to backup the current state of your laptop, with all the software that you installed included.
I know that the Acer Aspire gives you a choice when doing your recovery disk to make a CD recovery using the current image of the hard drive. I find this quite useful and appropriate specially when you have lots of software that you installed into your laptop like Office, accounting and all others like Email configuration. When become the need of a restore because of a virus or any other reason, it will restore it with all the software installed and configured. You save a lot of time there.
Looks like the HP recovery disk software make a CD recovery disk with just the original software. Unless there is a way to do it that i havent found.

Big plus on Acer for this though.

Let me know if you know how to do it.

    thanks.

True Image and Ghost are a couple of options for making a image of the drive. If you have a Seagate drive, Seagate offers a free download of Disc Wizard which is essentially True Image.

A few things to consider, in the Disc Wizards settings there is a setting which allows you to split the image into one or more pieces. When you do a recovery you need to put the recovery disc into the drive. Since your laptop only has one drive, putting it on a disc probably won't work too well. An external hard drive, which the software can see, is one option. Another choice is to partition you hard drive and place the image on the other partition. Disc Wizard can't replace a partition where the image resides.
