My wife has had her V2000z for barely a month and she has only used the cdrom twice. The second time she used it, the cd would not read and then the drive would not eject even with a paperclip. We finally got the cd out but the drive does not work at all and does not slide back in easily. I tried the online chat last night for a repair but they kept saying if it was accidental damage they would charge me. How is it accidental damage? We didn't drop it or break it ourselves.
In the future if we wanted to upgrade to a dvd drive, are there any aftermarket drives that will work in it? Can the fron bezel just be swapped to the aftermarket drive?
Thanks for the help.

Swapping optical drives is trivial. Unplug from the wall, remove the battery, remove the screw(s) securing the drive from the bottom of the notebook, slide the drive out, swap the new drive into the bracket (you'll need a #0 Phillips screwdriver), slide it back in. Odds are you won't be able to swap the bezel but you might get lucky.
See if HP will let you return the drive by itself for replacement so you won't lose the use of your notebook. Optical drives are fairly delicate so HP shouldn't give you any trouble about getting a warranty replacement.
