    Hi Everyone

I just recently bought a 12-Cell battery for my DV2730.
My original 6-Cell battery fails to charge anymore so my laptop would not power up just on battery power.

I'd like to know more on how to take better care for my new battery, and so my question is; does HP laptop, cuts off charging when battery is already full? Because i noticed that the "charge/lightning LED" does not stay ON anymore when battery is full. Is this a correct indicator? Or should i remove my battery when running on external power?

Thanks! Please post some tips also if you have some :)

The laptop does cut off charging when the battery reaches 100%, otherwise it would explode.

But you are correct in that it's better to leave the battery out when using the laptop on mains power, because keeping a battery fully charged generates additional heat (besides the heat produced by the laptop anyway) which is very very bad for your battery. Also, batteries are designed to be used, ie have charge/discharge cycles. Keeping them fully charged wears them over two times faster than actually using them.

These are question I've wondered about too OP. So far, my research indicates you should remove your battery when it's on A/C power. However, I maintain that this is a backwards requirement, especially for devices which should have microprossors to handle such menial tasks. In addition, you should also be aware that a 90% recharge counts as one charge and reduces your battery's total lifespan by one. For that reason, some computer won't recharge the battery unless is falls below that point.

In any event, all any lithium ion batters need is to be refreshed periodically (discharge fully before recharging).
