    Hi,
My laptop is DV1000 customised model, with a twelve-cell battery.
The twelve-cell battery capacity always reduces to 98% in about 3~4 days, even though the AC power is plugged to the computer all the time.

    What I have tried are:
1). Discharged the battery capacity below 10%, and then fully charged it to 100%
2). Followed the step to calibrate the battery pack, which is instructed in the manual.

Is this symptom normal? Does anyone have a similar issue?

    Thanks
    Person

To make sure it is calibrated correctly, be sure to have it charged fully before completely discharging it and then fully charge it again.

If the problem still persists, check your a/c adapter for any visual defects (cracks, cuts, etc.), try using a different outlet or go to the HP.com and read info (as I did) to make sure your laptop isn't running any programs in the background that is eating up your battery power.

Otherwise, try a new A/C adapter (for your model) and/or a new battery. :) Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other signs of losing power - may be other reasons.

    Hi,
Thanks for reply. In fact, although the AC adapter is plugged into the laptop, the battery discharges from 100% to 95% capacity in about a week, and then charges to 100% again. The discharging/charging process cycles.

I have done considerable research about this symptom, and concluded that it's a normal battery operation since 1. a "smart" battery functions like that in order to protect the battery itself, and 2. normally a battery has "self-discharge" over time. Hwever, I found my battery has a discharging rate a little faster than others (some people using IBM laptops said that their batteries can discharge below 95% in about a month. IBM offers a sofeware that enables a smart battery not to be charged even though its capacity has reached 95%, based on a user's setting for battery). I have asked HP to replace the battery and hope the new one will have a better result.

    Thanks
    Person Chiu

I'm not completely familiar with IBM so, therefore, the easiest and most obvious answer eluded me...I could have sworn you had posted that it was a laptop issue and not a battery feature.
