    I just purchased a Compaq R3440ca (AMD Athalon 64 bit 3000+ 1.8 GHz) and had some questions about power consumption when on battery power;
    1. when I closed the laptop I had it go into standby for the night, when I woke up I lost about 30% of the battery life, is this normal?
    2. when using a cordless mouse with a receiver and on battery power will this drain the battery signifacantly?
    3. when on battery power and using wifi does this drain the battery?
    4. will a bluetooth pcmcia card drain the battery if I use if for a wireless printer?
    5. Is there software I should download from AMD to improve battery life?

    Thanks[8D]

    Ok, well yes the consumption part is very so true because I have a Satellite M35X and if I had let's say 80% battery then I put the laptop in stand-by mode for the entire night then I would have 4% the next day. Yes, anything like a bluetooth module or wireless will significantly drain the battery because, for example; in WiFi even if there is no "signal" to any router it is still looking for one the entire time (drains battery); you should only keep the WiFi on if you know that there is a router in a close location. And no, AMD has no software that allows you to get better battery life. A few basics though, keep screen brightness down (2- or 3-notches), keep laptop in the power-saving mode, and don't "nail" on the hard-drive. Keep all power-intensive work for the AC adapter. I hope this helps!
