I have a less than a year old dv9000.....I notice that when I do not use the laptop for several weeks and I go to turn it on the battery is all but drained "dry"......is this normal?
I use to have a Dell and I don't remember this problem.

How much battery drain? Like all chemical formula's, the battery will depreciate at an aritmetic rate when not in use, it's unpreventable. However, if it's a very large drain, then that's not normal and you should see if you can get a new one.

Drain enough that the computer will turn on.... then immediately warn me that it will hybernate "due to low battery".... -
do you put your computer on standby or shut down? how much is the charge when you last left it? it shouldn't do that if you turn it off and left it on full charge the last time you left it. i'm pretty confident that leaving your computer for several weeks -like 2-3 months- shouldn't drain your computer if it left on full charge. 6 months, maybe the battery would get low, 1 year, that might drain the battery completely.
edit: have you ever calibrate your battery? try that first, first drain the battery completely, then charge it up and leave it 100% charge for a couple of hour 3-5hours. see if that fix the problem. do you have short battery life before this happens?
see this. its apple's, i choosed this because the article is easy to understand. but practically all notebook uses similar technique, you just replace the word "sleep" or "safe-sleep" with standby or hibernate. look at the article for Macbook and Macbook Pro, as this is the most recent one, battery technology keeps on evolving.
Battery drain when computer is turned off for a few weeks....
