Battery issue DV7 1653nr

Complete ludite here, I have a DV7 1653nr and have a battery problem. This is an HP refurb that is out of wty. Was working great until I installed Streets and Trips 2013. Got thru most of download and a msg 'cannot locate .dll' came up. Go back to vendor and they say no problem we can install that.. They do and it works. I test drive it on the way home and it is fine. Next day I fire it up and all is well. Go to start unit up later and no go. Like the battery is dead flat. There are 3 of 4 lites lit on battery. Big battery MU09. Plug in charger nothing, even charger lite out. Unplug charger and remove battery, wait a bit and put it back in. pushed start button and charger lite comes on with no charger. Won't turn on. Remove battery , plug in charger and it runs. Still won't run on battery. What the heck!!? Thanks for listening, Fred.

 

Am currently on hold with HP. I have been to India, Manilla,, Central America, The Midwest, back to Manilla, back to India and back to Central America. After 2 hours I am no further ahead. The last guy tried to sell some sort of wty for $15 a month or $100 to do online diagnostics. We are not amused. The problem can't be a huge deal but...Anyone have a suggestion? Would like to deal with a bricks and mortar shop here in Vancouver BC.

 

OK, It runs. While installing drivers for printer, somehow got into a driver up date for the laptop. Did scan, problems with some, upgraded and it works as advertised. Will flash it up in a couple days to be sure, but so far it starts on its own. HP was not helpfull at all. I just could not bring myself to admit defeat. I paid good money for this thing and never mistreated or abused it. Has low running hours so it should run. My old Dell was way out of wty and they sent a box for it, paid all the freight and fixed it n/c. That is service.
