I inserted my battery just now as per normal but this time the latch didn't spring back to the lock position. I had to manually push the latch back to the closed position in order to prevent my battery from falling out.

    Any way to fix this?

the spring probably popped out or broke from vibrations. youll have to send it in for warranty because the latch is part of the base enclosure which is very hard to reach.

Having heard so many horror stories regarding HP's warranty, I'm kind of apprehensive...

hmm yeah its unfortunate the most simple thing broke.

I dont recommend you try fix it yourself because you might void your warranty unless you know what your doing. You have to take off the system board to get to the latch area.

I'll try to live with it in the meantime. As long as the battery doesn't fall out, I don't mind having to push the latch close.
