I formatted everything on my dv5215. The computer doesn't recognize the battery and there's nothing I can do to get a status check. The HP battery check utility crashes befores starting.

    Any advice?

no. would using the windows disk on the recovery partition solve my problems? (only the windows disk, not all the other stuff that comes with the recovery)

what makes you think the computer does not recognize the battery? It works, doesn't it? HP's battery utility may be faulty but this has nothing to do with the status of the battery.
Furthers, here's what HP's site says "This utility is supported on all HP Notebook PCs manufactured in 2006 and most systems in 2005." I can't remember now when did dv5000 appear but you may have gotten an old battery, unsupported by the utility.

I also have the same problem with my dv5130ca notebook. I have the 12cell battery for it and everything worked fine for about 3 weeks then just today the laptop shut down and the battery charge light started blinking but the battery is 100% and the ac adapter is plugged in. So i call hp tech and they walk me through a total reset of my (static charge) by holding down the power button for 10 seconds with the ac and battery unplugged. But still nothing the laptop works fine plugged in but will not recognise my battery at all! any help would be greatful!

    Hi All,
On my DV5030 The battery is listed in Control panel as "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery". The driver is a Microsoft driver dated 07/1/2001, Version 5.1.2535.0
Might try the Windows update site to see if you can find it. You also might see if the Power management tools from Windows reinstalled, if not try installing them and see if the driver gets installed with them.
    Hope this helps.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok my hp dv5130ca with the pb995a 12 cell lithion battery just shutdown, would not boot from battery and would not recognize the battery when i had it up on ac power. Hp's techsupport could not help me and told me that i had to send it out for repair BUT i had the USA tech line cause the CA customer service lady(Telephone robot) transfered me to the wrong department so then i had to call them back and say Canada bla bla. After 2hrs 32min and 57sec (well close anyway) i read the above reply and tryed it..... Still nothing So moving on with the ACPI idea i uninstalled the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System and Embedded controllers" from the device manager. Rebooted on AC power and then reinstalled the controllers and once more rebooted still only on AC power. Once windows booted i replaced the battery and BOOM the flashing charge light went out I openned the power meter and instead of seeing 0% battery i saw 100% battery. I unpluged the AC and YES everything was back to normal running off battery once more. Sorry for the long post but i have had my HD crash, 2 12 cell batterys and 4 burn pixels since May 06 so yeah when i can fix this my self (with help of course) i get excited! Hd is still on back order btw................................
