I'm about to customize and order a Dv2000t notebook from the HP website, and need to decide between the 6 cell lithium ion battery, and the 12 cell. I notice that the 12 cell battery sticks out from the notebook. I have several questions about which battery to buy. What is the "normal" runtime for the 6 cell versus the 12 cell battery. If I go with the 12 cell battery, does it "stick out" from the notebook enough to be annoying? Any advice on which battery I should purchase would be appreciated.

I've seen these systems around on campus, and most with extended batteries. They put the laptop's keyboard deck at a small angle, which is actually a good thing health wise.

I notice that the Compaq V6000 now has an option for a high-capacity 6 cell on the CTOs. Given time, it should filter through to the rest of the consumer HP line giving an option to those that don't want the obtrusive bulk of the 12 cell.

Personally If you are going to use your laptop unplugged most of the time I would go with the 12 cell.

I have the 12-cell and ran a small test. I used the computer for about 3 hours of surfing the web and if I remember correctly the battery was at 80%. I just remember saying to myself that this laptop can probably last 6 hours.

Personally, if I could re-do my order, I would get the 6-cell and 12-cell.

If you don't ever use the 6-cell, you can always sell it on ebay for a nice profit or break even. I've been considering on buying a 6-cell on eBay and they always sell for over $80.

I like the 12-cell since it's easy to grip when you have to pickup and move. Plus the angle it provides when on a desk or on top of a binder on your lap gives it better air flow to keep your lappy cooler.

I would have to agree with ninja-star about having both the 6-cell and the 12-cell being the best solution. I ordered only the 12-cell and have regretted it ever since. Its heavy and makes handing an otherwise pretty trim system fairly awkward. If eBay had factory/HP 6-cells for $80 then I would jump on one (versus $130-ish from HP parts IIRC).
