Well, my laptop is a little over a year old and looks like my battery is almost worn out. I'm running notebook hardware control and it show's that the wear level is at 82%. Right out of the box last year, I immediately plugged it in the charger and used it, is that the correct way to maximize longevity or is there a certain way? There was also this one time where I accidently ran off the battery and wasn't paying attention to the status and ran it until it was completely empty and to where the laptop had to goto sleep mode, after that happended I plugged it in the AC right away and it wouldn't charge. So I had to do a cold boot. How would I know which replacement to get? I have a HP Pavilion dv6000 series, is it okay to get this one Battery or do it has to be one for the specific model like dv 6821.

Contact HP. I believe they cover batteries for the first year.
I would personally recommend you use batteries from HP.
HP Support linky. -
Ignore NHC's reading. If it runs as per manufacturer specifications, the maker will not replace the battery.

download from hp website help and support library. it contains some important tools to check your battery. also, you can set your power profiles to warn you if the battery charge reaches 20% ( default is 10%
