    Hi guys!

    I want to share my experience about swapping screens on dv7-6000 laptop..
    I changed my crappy 1600x900 screen with an AUO B173HW01 v5. So far everything was ok. In case you want to do recovery from CDs or select the Minimal Image Installation on Recovery Manager it will fail...

    The error on log file:Component: Wallpaper for Windows 7 - TDC
    Timing: Pininst_BBV2Post
    Error: Wallpaper installation failed, did not find ResultCode=0
    RESULT=FAILED
    Standard Error information...
    Standard Out information...
    Result=FAILED

    The reason: It checks the resolution of the screen and it shows a error in wallpaper installation... I have read that on wallpaper installation readme file...
    I think that the installation image was for the original laptop screen.because I put back the original 1600x900 screen and the recovery completed!!!
    I dont know If this happens in a BTO laptop or only on CTO.

    I will try to put the original HP 1920x1080 screen for the DV7-6000 to see If the problem persists, but I have to order it as a spare part...

    More reason for those looking to buy a dv6/dv7 to get the 1920x1080 display from the beginning.

    Perhaps the user created recovery media could be altered to work around this, I don't know...

    I am waiting the Recovery CDs from HP... As you said maybe it will install successfully because is not only for one specific model...and yes its better to buy with FullHD screen from the begining..

    Easy workaround is to just make your own Windows 7 recovery disc and install it that way then install the drivers you want from SWSetup.

    Honestly thats the thing you should do in the first setup with any HP laptop because you pick everything you want installed.

    This guide shows you how: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-compaq/432564-hp-laptop-out-box-guide-2-0-windows-7-a.html

    You don't have to read everything but I assure you it works because you have to do this anyway if you ever install a SSD because it will give you a similar error.

    You can do it if you still have access to your SWSetup folder (save to cd or floppy), otherwise you'll have to get all your drivers the hard way.

    I use Macrium Reflect to make restore images even with multiple copies of the HP recovery media created and hidden away..

    +1

    That's the most crazy thing I've heard today! Just install new Windows and the drivers.. I did that anyways when installing the SSD. Save yourself the hassle of ordering new screen or recovery CD, etc...

    I know thats a crazy thing... Btw HP is gonna send me Recovery CDs free of charge.. About the screen I thought that might be a lock in screens Firmware as in WiFi or BluRay drive... :)

    dv7-6000 isn't supposed to support 1080p screens, only the 6100s do. the problem is resolutions based, so i don't think ordering another 1080p is going to help.

    just install the old 900p screen back and use the minimal system restore, then use something like acronis to make an harddisk image and then install the new screen. whenever you want to use MSI, just restore to the image you backed up instead.

    You are right! I checked the Parts Surfer and the FullHD screen is available for dv7-6100 series only.. So changing with the HP part will make a difference?

    no i'm saying changing the screen to a HP 1080p screen would still not work. the problem is the 1080p, not what brand it is.

    i meant a workaround as in creating your own version of the minimal system restore, aka use MSI on the 900p screen, make a image of the harddrive right after it using 3rd party programs like acronis backup, and keep that to use as your "new" minimal system image.

    Thanks a lot! Thats what im going to do. I thought that would be some kind of lock on the HP screen..

    PS: Using recovery from hard drive made with 900p will be successful even the 1080p is installed.

    So were you able to replace the screen without changing the video cable on your unit? Which model of dv7-6000 was it?

    I'm looking into upgrading my dv7-6c50ca, though am wondering if it'll actually work.

    Thought I would follow this up by saying that I replaced the HD+ screen in my dv7-6c50ca with a Full HD screen. I ordered from Amazon based on the HP replacement part, although I probably could have bought a better screen from another manufacturer.

    Given the discussion on the restore disc not working, I didn't even bother, and installed a fresh copy of W7 Home Premium. Have pretty much everything working using the HP drivers, though you need a USB drive and another computer to get networking working, since the wired and wireless cards both didn't work with a stock Windows install.
