The Beats Audio software is part of the "IDT High Definition Audio Codec", which can be found here. The only Beats Audio function I lost after the clean install is the ability to turn Beats Audio on and off using FN+B. After the clean install it just stays on all the time (which actually isn't that bad).

the fn+b stuf comes from hp tonecontrol which should be in your swsetup folder (which you were supposed to back up)

Thanks for the heads up! I backed everything up before I did the clean install. However I didn't wanted to find out which program I should install for the fn+b by trail and error (and thus reinstalling all the crap that made me do the clean install in the first place). Furthermore I think the fn+B is only to show of how much better the Beats Audio sounds to your friends anyway.

the beats shortcut (fn+B) still exists... all it does is turns treble and bass all the way up in the windows audio controls

All you need for the Ctrl B Beats Audio option is the Audio driver provided by HP and one small program that basically changes Window's tone control options. I have the tone control program as stand-alone and can upload it to somewhere if MODs will allow.
