Beats Audio has seemed to work wonders on the built-in speakers on my Dv6tqe 6000. Without it, the sound seems tinny and weak, like most laptop speakers. But I enable it, and all of a sudden I get this full sound with nice bass coming from the little speakers. So, Beats must be a nice product, right?

One day I looked in the Windows audio control panel. This is what I find with Beats enabled. The Bass and Treble are up at maximum, which makes sense because the sound sounds a lot louder with it enabled.

Then, you turn off Beats and.... Ah! The bass is turned down to -12. No wonder it sounds like crap with Beats off.

Interesting. I did a fresh install of windows when I got my DV6 with beats. I opened the control panel and it is not maxed out like you say yours is. Wonder what's going on? Also, the built in speakers sound clear, if a bit tinny -- however, I plugged in some external desktop speakers and it sounds very good to me.

Ah, really? Looks like I was too quick to blame this one on HP :D

I just have Beats disabled and I zeroed out the control panel for now.

Try this: Go into the Start>Search function, type beats audio in and pick the Beats Audio Control panel. That's where all the fine tuning for audio is....

i plug in some mid-quality sennheiser stereo headphones (which are still quite good) and it sounds really good. however i notice the bass will dip down and be quieter than the rest of the music during heavy bass (I listen to dubstep lol). its actually a bit annoying but other than that it sounds great

beats audio is just a gimmick... I have it turned off and set bass/treble 0/0. sounds so much better than with it on. no more bloated bass and piercing highs...

My roughly 5 year old Toshiba with Harmon Kardon sounds 1000 times better than Beats Audio in the HP lappys. Beats is a joke. I can play organ music (like Toccata and Fugue in D Minor) and it sounds great on my Toshiba. Sadly, the toshiba is too slow to run FSX and some photo s/w I need to run now.

My speakers are pretty darn decent. They're definitely better than the one on my HTC Evo mobile phone. The only thing is they lack bass, but 99% of laptops don't really have that much bass to them anyways and there really is no point for it...

It seems like people go in search of things to complain and wine about. If you're not happy with your purchase then return it, get a life and move on.

I'v had mine for two weeks and while at first I was really concerned about the switchable graphics, i'v yet to run into any applications that have given me issues of any kind.

This thing has far exceeded my expectations and for the price it simply can't be beat. If you want a top notch laptop then go drop 2k and stop ing over something that cost around a grand and has better performance then most laptops beyond its price range.

honestly if you really care for sound from a laptop speakers, go MSi. Everything else comes way short on that department. Otherwise get a nice pair of headphones or speakers and get 50x better sound quality than any laptop.

That's what I planned on, before my laptop came I bought the ATH-AD700 open cans. I'm no bass-head so others would prefer closed cans but sound is perfect with quality headphones.

We can't expect good sound from such small drivers, but for what they are - I'm happy.

I can't remember the last time I actually listened to music with my laptop speakers. Probably back when I had my original Dell XPS with the builtin subwoofer.

Bring the bass down to -12, sounds bad right? now turn beats off, sounds even worse. With beats still off, bring the bass to max. Sounds OK, now turn beats on, sounds better. Gimmick yes, but it does do something.
