i work at a best buy, in the comp. dept., and one of my co-workers printed off some "new signs" for the notebooks we have on display. Now they aren't on sale, however all of the HP laptops have yellow clearance labels. I was talking with him about it, and it sounds like we are getting new HP's in a week or 2. How is that possible? or am i just missing something? (i've only worked in this dept for like 2 monthes.)
i'm just thinknig we'll get the new HP laptops when they come out in july with montevina, but there's no way we can get them this soon... perhaps this is going to be a 2-4 week clearance of the current HP's? because afterall, they aren't on sale yet. so whats your input? thanks!

    ???

I think you need to work there for a bit longer to get the hang of things. Laptops go on clearance all the time. Most of them have a lifespan of maybe 1 or 2 months on display. Then they become clearanced/discontinued to make way for another unit.

nah, this is different. all the HP's and all the compaq's. i know what you are talking about, we usually clearance them out one at a time. (usually some leftovers, we are a pretty high volume store.) but this is all the HP's. every single one has the yellow clearance color. all the compaq's too. the average lifespan of our products is actually 3 monthes. so this is interesting news for those of you who are looking at buying a new HP model. idk how it will work.

Preacha, I think that you are on to something. I checked out the preconfiged laptops on the HP/Compaq site, and three out of the five that i clicked on on were out of stock. I think that they are cleaning out the old stuff across the board to make room for the new models.

The best buy I work at hasn't really seen much clearance for the HPs and Compaqs. I'll check when I go into work tomorrow, and I'll get back to ya'll.

This does not surprise me. HP has already announced a bunch of new forthcoming models this summer. And from what I have read, there going to be some killer systems. Whole new platform. Once these come out nobody is going to want the older ones. So they are blowing them out or face the reality of even lower discounts.

probably... but a clearance for a month is a long clearance. who knows though

and apparantly all of our sony laptops are on clearance now too.

Well, they are awesome laptops, but there are many people like me who hate the look (too Toshiba-ish).

OK, when will HP be coming out with their new platforms? The current lot of HP's will serve me well for a few years--and I'm looking to replace my 4 year old HP. Being the cheap bastard that I am, I'm willing to put off buying until I can get a great deal on the current models.

Maybe they are preparing for the Puma versions and not the Centrino 2's?

Any news or updates about the Best Buy clearances? Is it true? Is Best Buy really doing a clearance to get rid of their HP Pavilions? If so, how are the prices?
