It seems that someone over at MDL has figured how to add a device ID to the bios. So we can now add the wlan card of our choice. I would like some input as to which card you all think is best. I want to go the dual band route due to the 2.4 spectrum is flooded here. But please don't limit your choices to dual band as others might not want to go that way.

The post on how to do it is here:

In short NO. The bios is encrypted so complete removal is not possible. If I understand what he is doing he found an "empty" slot in the white list where he can add a device id. You can insert the new card while in hibernation to access the device id through device manager. he then inserts the new device id into the empty slot and it should work.
He is the only person That I am aware of that has had any luck with these locked bios. Hopefully this is a first step to unlocking the advanced menu in our bios.

Hmm. I don't think people are going to agree on just one card, but the Intel 6300 is the best card in terms of performance.

edit: Does the DV6 even have 3 antennae to support a 3x3 card?

If you still want Intel's WiFi display, you'll want the Centrino 6205. HP conveniently sells this part but doesn't want our money for it

You can always add in a 3rd antenna.

As for widi, basically meaningless without the 15.22 update or later.

You can install one? Interesting... Do you have to take apart the laptop or can you just pop it in?

It should be wrapped around the screen under the bezel however in my qwest to get this done I have read that some have skipped the third antenna altogether and just used the two outer terminals on the card.

others just coiled it up and left it in the bottom of the laptop. both seem to work. I would add the antenna the first way under the bezel as it's not really that hard to do.
