My Gateway 6860 just fried after two years of perfect use... /tear

So... I'm looking for a nice replacement. I know I can get one of "these"....

    Newegg.com - Recertified: ASUS G71GX-RX05 NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo P8700(2.53GHz) 17.1" Wide XGA+ 6GB Memory DDR2 800 500GB HDD 5400rpm Super Multi DVD RW NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M

Is there a better "bang for my buck" out there? This looks like a steal really. I really have enjoyed my Gateway, and also had a great HP laptop previously, but I'm not sure if I can find as good a deal as the one I linked above.

    Thanks :)

HP can't even come close to matching that with any model.

Yes the 260M is one of the best GPU's - looks like a great deal.

That's a terrific laptop. The recertification kind of makes me weary though. On the other hand, Newegg is very reputable. Let us know what you do.

I would avoid a recertified laptop. There is a reason it was returned / needed repair.

Though if it were new, it certainly would be fantastic bang for the buck.

actually the 5830 comes near the specs of that gpu while the 5850 can play games much much better then the nvidia 260m

The issue of course is the price. Yes, the 5850 + a faster processor in an Envy 17 is going to out perform that model, but it would also be several hundred dollars more.

If you're looking for a good deal on an HP gaming laptop, the dv6t with a 5650 is probably your best bet.

never had a problem with ASUS recertifieds before .... usually come out better since they are double checked and the same warranty applies
