The cooler master seems pretty interesting, I'll keep it mind. Any one else have any other good suggestions? At this point I'm looking for fans that don't sit flat; I'm sure an arched positions minimizes the amount of dust getting into the notebook.

The Notepal U3 is massively huge, I bought it and returned it, it was 2-3 inches wider and longer than the laptop on all sides. It was designed for something like one of those huge Toshiba Qosmio 18 inch laptops, or like a larger 17" such as an Alienware or Asus G73.

The dv7tqe is quite slim for a 17 incher.

The Notepal U2 is barely shorter than the length and is the perfect width. That said, the rubber feet on the bottom of the dv7tqe line up just right with the rubber pads for the feet on the Notepal U2 so it fits properly. I've had no issues. The fans are even still easily positioned under the vents.

For the Dv6t should I go for the Notepal U2 or the U1?

I would go with the u2 just because I have it lol, I have never seen the u1 but I assume it is a tad smaller than the u2 and my dv6t already hangs over the sides of the u2 a lil, the u1 might be a lil too small imo. And having an extra fan cant hurt either. And if you buy from amazon it is not even a dollar more.

the u1 is way too small for a 15" laptop. The U2 is a good size, you'll like it.

I'm thinking about the coolermaster u2, from what you guys have said it seems nice for this lappy, but will the 9 cell battery cause any issues since it doesn't lie flat?

Any thoughts on the Cooler Master X2? It looks pretty nice. One 140 mm fan as opposed to dual 80 mm fans on the U2.

My guess is that the U2 fans might be more tweakable since you can move them to the spots where they would do the most good. It's really just a guess.

Yes I would definitely think the U2 is better since you can position them perfectly.

Not saying it's the "best"...but it's what I'm using. But then again, I'm not a hardcore gamer so I don't anticipate my computer getting excessively hot from processing and graphics.

I bought the girlfriend a CoolerMaster X2. She liked it cause of the blue light up fan. As to performance, it did alright, but its quite a lot bulkier than the Notepal U2.

The fan speed in the X2 is adjustable with a little rotation nob, and it might be easier to use this one in a lap as opposed to all the open space on the bottom of the U2. It likely comes down to personal preference of looks and size.

I'm partial to the U2 (as if that werent obvious by my earlier posts) because of its compact size, the ability to store it in the same pocket with the laptop and the moveable fans.

i was going to get the U2 but then i read a lot on this website about the zalman nc2000, so right now i'm torn between those two. Right now my only drawback about getting the U2 is that i've read some reviews saying that the fans rattle a lot or stop working in a short time. Can anyone confirm/deny?

In feb of last year I bought the NV5927U and the Notepal U2. I work at night on the weekend and I used the cooler every night at work, 30-40 hours a week for a year before I sold it still in working condition with the laptop.

In terms of fan rattling; I will say that eventually the fans would rattle just a little bit on start up, but the longer they were on the quieter they would get. The rattling was never loud or offensive, just very slightly noticeable, but then it would fade out as they continued running. When I sold it though, I noticed there was some pet hair in the fans, likely it would stay quieter longer had I bothered to clean them out when I had it, I did clean it before I sold it though.

I wouldnt have sold it with my earlier laptop if I had known it would fit the dv7tqe properly. I thought I would need the larger U3 with a 17" laptop, however, the U3 turned out to be way too big, so I returned it. U2 still fits under the rubber feet on the bottom of the laptop so I have since bought a second.

By the way, what is the black band in the CoolerMaster Notepal U2 used for?

So...haven't seen this question asked...but how do these laptop coolers work with the incline of a 9 cell battery?

    Does that cause any issues?

I'm also wondering about this as well. Can you just let the back end hang off the top of the U2 cooler and adjust the fans accordingly? Can you just take the battery out when plugged in as well?

(I would just test taking the battery out, but I'm in the middle of a REALLY long download)

The strap is so you can store it with the laptop, say in a laptop bag. This is one of the biggest reasons I like this cooler, because I can take it everywhere with me and it adds almost zero bulk.

Let me link you some pictures:

I suppose you COULD let the back of the laptop hang off the U2 with the 9 cell battery, but with the screen and the battery back there it makes it a little back heavy and it may tip over. Even just testing it with my 6 cell it felt a little back heavy.

You should be able to run without the battery on it at all.

Does anyone actually get any differences with these coolers? I've tried thermaltake's 23cm cooler (full aluminum), and it makes absolutely no difference compared to when the laptop is just propted up by the 9 cell battery.

I just repasted my laptop with IC-7 diamond and stuck in a few heatsinks on top of the cpu heatsink. Heatsinks don't really change the maximum temperature though, but makes heating up and cooling down a take a bit longer.

I use the Thermaltake 23 and it does drop the temps a noticeable amount. When intense gaming my CPU temp would go up into the low 90s but now it stays decently below even when using it on my lap.

I repasted and the CPUs only go up to 80C max when playing SC2 at full settings. I think with the stock paste, a cooler would make a bigger difference. Coolers definately make the left palm area feel cooler under load though!
