I have just about eliminated the more expensive Dell E1705 (loaded) and Toshiba G35 in favor of a maxed out HP dv8000t from Costco. My concern is to have the best screen primarily for viewing and editing photos (no video, no high demand gaming). Is it as simple as the WSXGA Brightview provides more pixels and so more detail while the WXGA ULTRAbrightview with two lamps offers better contrast etc. Any advice from photographers out there would be appreciated.

my screen looks amazing for photos and such. I honestly don't think it would make that big of a difference just with the brightness

I am considering the dv8000t as well through Costco. HP has a bad reputation now like Dell if a problem occurs. However 6 month no hassle guarantee is great from Costco. Plus, the bright versus ultrabright screen makes a huge difference. The limited viewing angle and generally dull screen would not meet my photo and video needs (as well as very inferior to my desktop Sony and LCD screens). So, demand on an ultrabright and turn it to minimum brightness for longest battery life and most pleasant viewing in a normally lit room.

    I bought the
    HP Pavilion dv8210us
1.8 GHz AMD Turion 64 Mobile Processor ML-32
    1.5GB 333MHz DDR Memory
    80GB (5400RPM) Hard Drive
ATI RADEON® XPRESS 200M IGP 256MB Video Memory
    17.0” WXGA+ High-Definition BrightView Widescreen

for digital photography and designing webpages and it is perfect for me.
I've been doing photography for over 40 years now, so that should count for something.

I don't think you need to spend the big bucks for the highest resolution that the 8000t has.
    256MB Nvidia Geforce Go 7400
    100GB 5400rpm HD
    17" WSXGA BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050)

I feel it is kinda like the 500 hp sports car... you don't need the power but like to have it for bragging rights.

Seagate, can you elaborate on how the bright versus ultrabright screen makes a huge difference?
