If you are looking for a cheap 15.6 inch laptop, look no further. I picked up an HP 15-d071nr from the store on Christmas for 330 dollars! That is not that bad AT ALL... The specs aren't all that impressive, they are pretty standard, but for a 300 dollar notebook, they are kind of high.

    AMD A4-5000 (Quad Core 1.5Ghz)
    ATI Radeon HD 8330
4gb of RAM (Upradable to 8gb)
    And a 500gb Hard drive

My only complain is windows 8, but I remedied this by installing "StartIsBack" and doing some small tweaks to get rid of all that touch crap. Then, I uninstalled all the HP bloatware and HP games... so pretty much, it is like running barebones windows as if I downloaded it from a disk. It behaves exactly like windows 7 and im starting to like it the more I use it.

As for performance, I can watch youtube videos at 1080p(60fps) and play most games like fallout 3, oblivion, minectaft, etc at 30+ FPS... New games kind of lag behind, but I didn't buy it to game, I bought it just to use for school and what not. It handles tons of windows open with powerpoint and word open as well and doesn't even break a sweat... literally. The thing stays COLD, there is an intake under the keyboard and you can feel the air sucking when you put your palm on the keys... this means you can set it on carpet and it doesn't get hot. The case itself is pretty durable as well, it has a glossy black coaing, with a little flake in it... so, it is pretty finger print prone. The touchpad is an improvement and is the best one I've used from HP by far. In fact, I am so impressed by this machine, I may spend the money and upgrade it to 8gb of RAM and see what performance I get.

If you just need a computer to just do normal stuff, this is by far the BEST laptop I have found for sub 300 dollars. I am in love with it and that's hard to say with a lot of HP products of recent years.
