I've been researching HP & Compaq's for the last couple of months. I've come to the conclusion that I want either a HP dv4000 or Compaq V2000z. I wanted everyone's input as to where I can get the best deal and whats the best retailer. I'm new to laptops and don't want to take a wrong turn with this purchase. Thanks for all of your input!!

hpshopping.com is the best place. Combination of no taxes & shipping. Plus great customer service if you run into any issues.

Yeah, direct from HP is a good option. Also some retailers often offer mail in rebates & other such incentives. Office Depot usually runs such offers on HP's often. Costco is also quite good although prices might be about the same as direct from HP, they do have a 6 month return policy(vs 30 days from HP) which can be helpful.

I agree. The tax savings will probably make it worthwhile. Unless someone like BestBuy has crazy rebates, which they do from time to time.

Best Buy right now is selling I know one V2000Z model and two DV1000 models. Both the DV1000 models are "special edition", only found at Best Buy. The model numbers are DV1311se and DV1331se, the former has the Celeron chip and the latter the Pentium M chip. What makes these different from every other DV1000 out there is that the lid is shiny and glossy, the words special edition are written right above the display instead of widescreen and on the lid, just below the HP logo are the small words special edition.
