I would like some advice on virus, spyware, adware, defrag etc... products.

Is there a good all around maintanance program?

    Should I buy each individually?

    What programs are the best?

In my opinion, Avira Antivirus is a great virus protection program, Plus it's Free, and has small system footprint. Then for a firewall I would go with Comodo Free Firewall, It's prob the best out there, and again small memory footprint. For spyware I use Spybot which is Free and very effective. For Defraging, just use the OS's Built in defrag, works good. Glad to be of help

if you want an all in one solution, go with Norton 360 (around $70)
or you can get the free ones that Yitzter suggested

Ive been using a combo of free anti-virus/spyware products with no problems at all, its been keeping all 3 of my computers bulletproof for a while now. Im sure most people here are using these too:

AVG 7.5 Free edition for viruses, it updates itself pretty much everyday against viruses. Very good anti-virus, doesnt eat much system resources and simple user friendly

Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware 2007 SE to keep all the ad/spyware away, update every week or so. Also theres windows defender as an extra

As for defragging you can just use the windows one which is automatically scheduled or you can download Auslogics Disk Defragger.

I dont understand why people pay for Norton, it is such a resource hog and will definately slow down your laptop

I have always been a fan of Norton products...especially "System Works"....However, Norton 360 has to be one of the WORST Norton programs I have ever seen. I got it for $30 and it still ain't worth it...it's pure junk!!!!

Avast for virus is very good and free.

I'm still looking for a good, free system repair and maintenance similar to systems works "windows repair"....any out there?

@ Mikelets456. If you want a good system maintenance and cleaner, may I suggest going to with CCleaner. Very good free program, though I would suggest staying away from registry cleaners. Most of the time you end up slowing down and eventually ruining your system. Trust me. And to everyone out there, Stay away from norton. It's a garbage program all around. Seriously the problem is people want "easy" so they buy norton. It'll really do a number on your computer
