Hey all, after not getting much solution to this PROBLEM which makes using this laptop (which I'm on right now) a HUUUGE PITA. I mean enough for me to consider trying to sell it or something, It's still under warranty, but knowing what I know about "warranty" service, getting it actually fixed is a different beast to slay... any thoughts or advice on approaching HP?
I'm really at my wits-end on this!![]()

Sent it in for repair 4 times. After than, you can request a replacement...which will (hopefully) be a newer computer.
Get the new one, then either keep it or sell it. -
Awesome, thanks for the advice/reply... I hope they don't give me a run around about it: I got this from someone on a local craigslist FS listing. Worked fine for a bit, then started having problems... geesh. Did the warranty check on the tag, and it's well under warranty.

v12v12 should send it in and let them try to fix it as the keyboard/trackpad is an easily replaceable part. Only if there is no resolution should a replacement be asked. It's called a warranty, not a product replacement plan. -
They definately can fix the trackpad easily so dont expect to recieve a brand new one just yet.
If they dont fix it properly because of their incompitency then yes you are entitled to a replacement -
uuugh, how long does this kind of repair/send-in take for the whole process? I'm a IT-consultant, I can do the repairs myself if necessary — I cannot go a week/weeks without my laptop. I need it for work/school...
Oh I forgot to mention: The battery is bunk. Holds a full charge for a good 15-minutes then dies... I've tried draining it, then letting it full recharge to possibly condition it... still nothing. I think this was a random occurrence, b/c I cannot remember exactly when it started... What is the longest battery life module that HP offers, that isn't some bulky, external option?
Thanks for replying... -
Maybe 2 weeks or less since its just the touchpad, clarify with them before you send it. If you do it yourself that will void your warranty instantly. I recommend just sending it in.
You must have dead battery cells. Most likely from overcharging, cell reversal or excess heat overtime. You can try do a warranty replacement for this but if i remember correctly HP isnt liable for battery life.
You never mentioned what laptop you have so if its a dv2000/6000. You have a choice between the 6cell standard and 6cell high capacity (15-20% more). Theres also a 12cell but this will make your laptop really bulky. -
Should have gotten onsite warranty since you always need your laptop, especially as a consultant. I always make sure I get onsite warranty as I cannot afford to lose productivity either.
Without onsite warranty, you're looking at a 3-5 days turnaround, worse if you do not own a business model (business models get priority in service and parts inventory). -
You can't get onsite service for consumer notebooks..
Best way to approach HP about Keyboard/trackpad issue?
