They told me they couldnt cancel my order-- so they had me make another order (said they couldnt stop the 1st order (which was 30 min after I pushed the order button) I selected the wrong processor (duh?) They told me to refuse shipment on the first order and just accept the 2nd one.. Is this standard for HP--- I mean just cancel the order- but instead they want me to send it back (ie. costing them more money ect...) I know it was my fault for not researching the processor more than I selected a 1.5ghz baninis instead of a 1.6ghz dothan--- They wouldnt change or cancel the order-- but said to refuse shipment.... what a waste
btw dv1000 screenbrite

Yeah that is sneaky and wierd. It's almost as sneaky as Intel in their processor numbering, e.g. the 1.5Ghz Banias is number 705 but the 1.5Ghz Dothan is number 715. Problem is most notebook manufacturers only carry one or the other, and it's usually the 705, so you think you're getting a newer centrino when you're really getting old kit. Good call though on getting the 1.6Ghz Dothan (725 I think). The Dothans have a 2mb L2 cache and supposedly better performance/power management than Banias.
Though considering that it's taking now 17+ days to get my laptop, you may be in for a wait. Hopefully not though, as it only seems as though these new V2000 and DV1000 models are taking forever to be delivered.
Good luck. -
Jasper,
Whatever you do, don't refuse the 1st notebook when it arrives. You're gonna have a MASSIVE headache trying to get the money returned to your credit card. Accept the 1st system, but call them up and arrange to get an RMA number & Tracking # from the courier, this way, if it gets lost/stolen when it's shipping back to them, they and the shipping company is responsible, not you. They should never have told you to refuse the 1st order, that's a good way to never get your money back.
Regarding costing HP more money, well, it's true. HP has adopted most of Compaq's MAJOR bad habits. Now you know why HP's quarterly numbers were WAY below predictions. Although it's a great savings to the customer, since they don't have to pay for shipping back to them, it costs HP money. Cancelling the order would be ideal, but trust me, their systems & depts don't work well together, left hand right hand issue.
So, make sure you accept the 1st unit, call them to get RMA number, ship unit back (on their dime) and get a tracking number from the courier. This way, you're butt is covered.

I called an HP rep and they also told me to refuse delivery if I were to get 2 laptops (tried to cancel order and order the 5400RPM harddrive, a new option they put up about 2 days after I ordered). But now i check the delivery status and it says "canceled." Whew!
Best way to return a HP notebook?
