So getting the Envy 15 @ BB and off HP is pretty much the exact same right? Except from HP you get to customize it.

But BB might have the credit card special of no payment for 12 months and at the BB reward points at the same time..

    Hmmm..

I'd say Best Buy is the better option. Not sure about HP's return policy (if they charge a restocking fee) but any problems and you can take it to Best Buy and get a refund.

no charge from HP AND you get a whopping 21 days to test the he11 out of your machine. it's a no lose situation from you, PLUS, you can get your machine custom built as you like it. if you are a regular home user, it probably wont matter where you get a machine from.

And the Envy model from BB mostly have the F.04 BIOS version as reported by people, which would lead to substantially reduced battery life and overheating problems. The ones from HP will be much more up to date in terms of firmware fixes.

I would go with HP too, for several reasons: You definitely want to be able to customize your machine to get EXACTLY what you want, plus, you want to have the most up-to-date technology and features. Buying from HP gives you a no-cost 21 day opportunity to try the computer, and if you don't like it, return it. PLUS, they probably have EXTENDED that time period until after the holidays. (They did that last year -- I bought my dv5t December around December 1st, and had until MID JANUARY to return it!)

Price-wise, Best Buy may have a sale on your model, but HP almost always has discounts on the website, and additional discount coupons are almost always available from HP and from other discount sources. So you can get a huge savings AND the latest model + features. I just checked the HP website, and for the Envy there are several payment options: You can choose "No payments for 6 months" or reduced installment payments, or Bil l Me Later® - subject to credit approval . And, take a look at: See all special offers & deals

However, if you have problems with your system, both Best Buy and HP are equally difficult to deal with --- that's just an inherent problem of buying technology. It's great and easy when there aren't any problems, but almost always difficult when there are. (And many times the problems don't show up until AFTER the return period has expired.) So, an important bit of information for you to get, is what kind of product support will Best Buy and HP offer when you do need their assistance?

Our BB has a 14 day return policy WITHOUT a restocking fee. I once bought a Compaq from BB which died in less than a month and HP replaced it with free shipping to and fro. You can get an extended warranty from HP even if you bought from BB which btw is way cheaper than Geek Squad. When my Compaq died HP didn't recommend letting the Geek Squad repair it since it would take more than 2 weeks. I do like BB financing of no payments for 18 months but if you miss a payment the interest is around 23%!! ouch!

Interesting. So it would make sense to check with HP to see, what exactly is their policy in regard to repairs/replacements of computers purchased from sources other than HP.

BB may be a good place to check out systems but is not a good place to buy laptops. Compared to buying online, their prices are high in just about everything they sell.
