I right clicked on desktop, then clicked properties, settings, advanced, adapter, properties, on bottom of page it says device usage, I clicked disable this device. Now my computer boots up and makes the normal intro sound but the monitor goes black right when the Welcome screen on XP should appear. How can I fix this problem to where the monitor will work properly again. Is there any way to enable the device I changed (I think the video card) without being able to see anything? Any help would be appreciated more than I can say.

First knock your head againts a hard surface .

Then try to boot in a safe mode .

Or try to boot from a bootable cd .

Or get a hard drive remove the old one insert new , and from there fix the problem with an extreanal enclosure .

Or are you sure its the gfx card and not display , did you try plugin a monitor and switch source ?

Or maybe you actually hit switch source and set as external , try to swtich to lcd ?

oh dear, what a problem. working on a computer with a monitor that doesn't work is like being blind except worse because you can't feel your way around in a 2-dimensional environment!

See if there's any video adapter options available by going into the BIOS/settings utility on bootup (usually done by holding F2 during bootup or on my thinkpad you hold in the blue "Access IBM" button). You can always use manufacturer restore CDs if you have them...but usually that formats your hard drive, which is not what you'd desire I assume.

That's one of those user actions Windows should most definitely be displaying a confirm box to make the user sure they understand what they're about to do.
