My V2000Z shipped this week and is slated to arrive on Tuesday. It's a Turion 64 ML-37, and I hear on this forum that it may be affected by faulty drivers affecting its ability to powerstep.

Does anyone have a walkthrough or just direct links so that I can solve the problem right away?

    Thanks

Just head to Compaq's website and you can go to their support center to get the latest drivers. If you are looking for video card drivers you will have to post what card you have.

    Hope this helps.

some of the posts in this forum suggest that the problem actually IS the newest drivers

Don't worry about it. Just download the new drivers from Compaq Support, and also run Windows Update..

I suggest that you wait for your laptop before worrying on the problem.

I think you're referring to the CPU driver problem. The problem is that some users that use driver version 1.2.2.0 have reported that CPU run always at it's max speed (1.8Ghz or 2.0Ghz)... and doesn't slow down to 800Mhz under light load or idle.

And they have reported that installing version 1.1.0.18 fixes the problem.

I believe this is a just minority of the users.

I'm using version 1.2.2.0 and runs fine. Other have reported that it works fine for them too.

In any case, your system will come with the Drivers CD which contains all the drivers. The drivers are also in C:\SWSetup folder (which you should backup, since it's not always the same version as in the CD).

You're right, using an undervolting program overrides the speedstepping set by your processor.
