So i was doing some updates and there was an update for the bios.
It said to restart so i did.
Once i restarted i got a black screen with a little white flashing bar.
I left it like that for about 30 minutes, turned it off for a few hours and it still does it.
    How can i fix this?

Take the battery pack and AC power out

Hold the power button for 30 seconds or more

Try starting up again. If it doesnt startup then the BIOS update might have bricked the notebook.

correct me if i am wrong, but is the laptop supposed to shut down instead of restart after installing BIOS updates on HP laptops?

it seems from your description, your computer failed the BIOS update and bricked

first off, the bios update doesnt just run on its own after all the other updates, you have to start it, after it does its work it will restart. If i understand you right, it restarted and did nothing? IF this is the case, take out the battery, ac adapter power, and the CMOS battery. Leave it like this for 10 mins and then try to get vista to run in safe mode. then reflash the bios
