Recently I had trouble with my laptop and I reset my bios to "default" and now when i restart my laptop it doesn't boot into windows.

In order for me to get into windows I have to hit "ESC" when the HP welcome screen comes on then I have to hit enter on "HARD DRIVE". It then states the hard drive failed then to hit F1. Once I hit F1 the "Windows" screen pops up.

I moved my hard drive up to slot 1 in the start up but for some reason it still doesn't work. There is nothing wrong with my hard drive becasue i ran checkdisk/f and it came up with a couple of things but it resolved the issue. I backed up all my data just incase but I think by setting the bios to factory default it messed something up because i never had that problem be4 I reset it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have exact error message?

    Maybe it's a matter of master/slave settings

It says ""S.M.A.R.T. failure detected" I believe... Hmmm I wonder if it changed when I took apart my laptop? I really dont feel like opening it up again. HP laptops are def. the biggest pains in the a$$ to open IMO.

SMART error means the BIOS detected a physical problem with the hard drive, and the hard drive needs to be replaced.

I ran tests on my hard drive and they came back with no errors.... And after I receive that error I press F1 and my pc boots up normally... So I don't see how there is an error with the drive itself.
